Greetings!
What started out as a dream a little more than two years ago to honor our mother, renowned Water Colorist and Calligrapher, Grace Phillips, is now becoming a reality! We will achieve our goal of paying tribute to her by showcasing her lifetime achievement of Art and to raise awareness for Alzheimer's, from which she suffers. The three-month exhibition begins on October 5, 2010, and goes through January 4, 2011, at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA. A special fundraiser to benefit the care of Alzheimer's patients will be held on the inaugural day of the exhibition. The Cocktail Reception, Fundraiser and Silent Auction on Tuesday,
October 5, 2010, will include a 'Fragrance Journey' overview by Sue Phillips,
International Fragrance Expert, to raise awareness of the correlation
of smell, taste and memory as key elements to emotional well-being and
how the plight of Alzheimer's affects these senses. Read Sue's article
"Sensory Healing" in Glow Beauty Magazine. We are grateful to all our Sponsors for their enthusiasm and generosity, and for helping us create a SENSORY CELEBRATION with Art, Scent, Wine, Food and great Music . . . all with a South African and Californian flavor and ambiance. We thank South African Airways and ETALI Safari Lodge for donating the spectacular Grand Prize of a round trip ticket for two to South Africa and a wonderful 3-night weekend at the most luxurious ETALI Safari Game Park in Southern Africa valued at $6,500. Thanks to Timeless Africa Safaris for the introduction to ETALI. As a tribute to Grace Phillips who was THE foremost Calligraphist and Watercolorist from South Africa and who was active in the arts in San Diego for over 20 years, her children, Geoff and Sue Phillips, together with Scripps Memorial Hospital are presenting this Retrospective Exhibition and Silent Auction fundraiser benefit. This is a one-time spectacular event of a collection of art painted over 70 years, some of which has never-before-previously-been seen. The three month exhibit portrays South African scenes, florals, portraits, and landscapes from Grace's travels all over the world.
Guests may bid on Grace's Artwork in the Silent Auction and there are
many other wonderful items that will be raffled off as door prizes. While guests enjoy refreshments, the Silent Auction will go Live and they will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite works of art. 25% of proceeds from the evening as well as from sales of Artwork
during the 3-month exhibition will be donated to Scripps and
Alzheimer's.
To enhance this Multi-Sensory event, delicious authentic South African food will be prepared by world-renowned DELI-SA, wines by Southern Hemisphere Wines, and Wine Shop at Home, ambient scenting by Scentevents, Music by Jazz Club, and magnificent African scenery will be provided by Backdrops Beautiful to delight guests as they sip, sniff, waft, view, bid, swoon and croon at this heart-warming, celebratory fund-raising scentertaining experience!
We are extremely grateful to all those who have made this tribute possible!
Most sincerely and sensorially . . . treasure every day!
Sue and Geoff Phillips
