U.S. Virgin Islands, October 9, 2023 — The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) announced that its popular holiday Virtual Giving Tree project is back for the fourth year in a row. More than $220,000 has been distributed to USVI nonprofits since the program was launched in 2020.
“In our Virgin Islands, nonprofit organizations are working every day to enrich the quality of life in our community," said CFVI President Dee Baecher-Brown. ”During this holiday season of 2023, it is an honor for CFVI to host our annual Virtual Giving Tree and partner with our nonprofit colleagues to support holiday-related needs for children, youth, families and seniors."
Last year, the project distributed $56,266 to 21 USVI nonprofits to support holiday-related needs for children, youth, families and seniors.
Funding was used to provide seniors, low-income families and children, the homeless, and others with a variety of needs, including food, personal care products, holiday gift baskets, clothing, toys, and much more. For a detailed list, read the press release from last year.
The Foundation has once again set up an online form and is asking USVI nonprofit organizations to submit specific needs and requests by Monday, November 6, 2023. The form can be accessed by visiting cfvi.co/2023VirtualGivingTree.
Baecher-Brown noted that eligible requests should meet the needs of the most vulnerable community members, such as providing gift cards to low-income community members for basic needs like clothing, household items, food, and utilities, in addition to toys.
"While we cannot guarantee funding in response to requests, we will work to support as many requests as possible," she said.
