Calhoun County Clerk and Register of Deeds Kimberly A. Hinkley is encouraging residents to serve their communities as election inspectors for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, General Election.
Cities and townships throughout Calhoun County rely on trained election inspectors to help ensure elections are conducted smoothly, securely and accurately. With polling locations across the county, local clerks need community members to help staff precincts and assist voters on Election Day.
“Election inspectors play a critical role in the election process,” Hinkley said. “They help ensure that every eligible voter who comes to the polls is welcomed, assisted and able to cast their ballot efficiently and securely. Serving as an election inspector is a great way to support your community and see firsthand how our local elections are administered.”
Election inspectors perform a variety of duties, including preparing polling locations for opening, greeting and checking in voters, issuing ballots, assisting voters as needed and completing procedures required to close the polls at the end of Election Day.
Election inspectors are paid positions, with rates established by the hiring jurisdiction. Those selected must complete required election inspector training and are appointed by the appropriate local election commission. Work schedules and the availability of full-day or shift assignments vary by jurisdiction.
To serve as an election inspector in Michigan, applicants must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Be registered to vote in Michigan if age 18 or older.
- Not have been convicted of a felony or election crime.
- Not be an election challenger, candidate, member of a candidate’s immediate family or member of the local board of canvassers.
- Declare an affiliation with a recognized political party as required by Michigan election law. Applicants may not designate themselves as independent or unaffiliated.
