WORCESTER, MA – The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District (BID) announces a call for proposals for lighting and public art installations for the 2024 Festival of Lights, hosted by the City of Worcester. This beloved annual event, scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024, marks the official start of the holiday season in Worcester, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to the Worcester Common for a night of festivities, performances, and community celebration.

The BID is once again coordinating holiday lighting elements for Downtown and is seeking innovative lighting proposals for two types of projects: temporary installations that will be showcased on the Worcester Common during the Festival of Lights event, and semi-permanent installations that will remain on display throughout the season, from Friday, December 6, 2024, through Friday, February 28, 2025.

This initiative aligns with the BID’s mission to foster a vibrant and welcoming Downtown, using public art and creative lighting to enhance the city's cultural landscape. Proposals are encouraged to be imaginative, energy-efficient, and designed with both the Festival of Lights and the entire winter season in mind.

General Submission Guidelines:

  • Proposal Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2024
  • Budget: Total funding of up to $30,000 is available, with proposals accepted across three project tiers.
  • Notification Period: Selected proposals will be notified by Monday, September 30, 2024.
  • Installation Period: Projects will be installed between Thursday, November 21 and Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
