Go Outside to Play - at George Washington's 292nd Birthday

As partygoers walk the grounds of George Washington's boyhood home on Presidents' Day, they'll get to participate in all the festivities one might see at a birthday party - and then some. Of course, the "birthday boy" will be there, in the form of costumed George Washington interpreter, Greg Fisher, and also an appearance from the Fredericksburg Nationals' GW mascot. Take a selfie with one or both of them: #gwbirthday.

Step under the beautifully hand-hewn Ferry Farm pavilion to create a colonial-inspired craft between bites of birthday cupcake. Burn off those calories with the kids and grandkids by playing colonial-style games like nine-pin, stick and hoop, and graces. Venture down the hillside stairway to the Rappahannock riverside, where guests can release their inner pitcher by seeing how far they can throw a stone across the water, in the fashion of the legendary toss of Washington's silver dollar-sized rock. At noon, party guests can sing happy birthday to George, led by Fredericksburg's own singer/guitarist "Stormin'" Norman Voss, bassist for Bret Michaels of Poison fame.

Take a break from the sugar rush-induced physical activity to enjoy an abbreviated Washington House tour or linger by several educational stations to engage with archaeologists, historians, and other experts to hear more about Ferry Farm, the Washington family, and the enslaved people who lived there.

Also, guests can pick up event-exclusive Ferry Farm stickers, part of Tour Stafford's popular Stick to Stafford campaign (while supplies last).

The party runs from 10am-3pm. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended. Purchase tickets for arrival times beginning at the top of every hour. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children 17 and under. Free parking on-site. No pets allowed at this event.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled, and refunds issued.

About The George Washington Foundation

Historic Kenmore and George Washington’s Ferry Farm are owned and operated by The George Washington Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the public understanding and appreciation of the lives, values, and legacies of George Washington, Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis, and the people who lived and worked on the properties with them.

Over one hundred years ago, an intrepid group of Fredericksburg-area women saved Kenmore from development. That group and their successors remained at the helm of the Foundation for 77 years. Today, Kenmore and Ferry Farm are living history museums, showcasing the significant impact of the Washington and Lewis families’ lives and legacies on the United States and its history.

The George Washington Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Foundation relies on support from generous donors and volunteers for its ongoing programs.
