As Hyde County continues to navigate recovery from this historic winter storm, county officials are providing updated operating hours for county facilities and a status report on solid waste convenience sites. While progress is being made, the combination of significant snow accumulation and extreme cold continues to present challenges across the region.
COUNTY OFFICE HOURS UPDATE

Wednesday, February 4, 2026: Hyde County government offices will now open at Noon. This is a change from the previously announced 2-hour delay to allow more time for safe travel and facility preparations.
SOLID WASTE SITE STATUS
Efforts to clear access to our convenience sites are ongoing. Please see the current status below:

Open Now: The Swan Quarter, Engelhard, and Ocracoke sites were successfully opened today.

Opening Wednesday Morning: The Fairfield site is scheduled to resume operations tomorrow morning.

Aiming for Wednesday Afternoon: We are working to have the Scranton and Ponzer sites open by tomorrow afternoon.

Social Media Alerts: We will continue to post updates to our official social media pages as these remaining sites become available.
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING
A reminder that the regular Hyde County Board of Commissioners meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
CRITICAL SAFETY REMINDERS

Road Safety: As temperatures fluctuate, please be extremely cautious of black ice. Bridges and overpasses will freeze before main roads!!! Everyone is still encouraged to limit travel to allow NCDOT crews to continue their work clearing secondary roads.

Pet Safety: Please remember to keep your pets inside or ensure they have a warm, dry place to shelter from the extreme temperatures.
