LOVAN NAMED ORSANCO CHAIRMAN
 
 
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) has elected C. Ronald (Ron) Lovan of Union, Kentucky, as the 64th Chairman of ORSANCO. He assumes office on July 1.
 
Ron Lovan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Kentucky Water District. Lovan has management and administrative responsibility for the largest water district in Kentucky which serves approximately 300,000 people and operates three water treatment plants.
 
Prior to serving as President and CEO of Northern Kentucky Water District, Lovan was the manager of a water/wastewater utility serving the City of Thornton, a suburb of Denver, Colorado. He was in the consulting engineering business in Lexington, Kentucky and worked previously as a district engineer with the National Clay Pipe Institute. He began his career with the Kentucky Water Pollution Control Commission. Commissioner Lovan holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. Ron is a licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky and Colorado.
 
Lovan's professional associations and activities include: National Society of Professional Engineers; Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers; American Society of Civil Engineers; Water Environment Federation; American Water Works Association; American Water Works Association KY/TN Section; Academy of Environmental Engineers; Water Research Foundation; Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies Board Member; and Kentucky Infrastructure Authority Board Member.
 
Lovan has been active in both community and volunteer organizations such as: Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce; University of Kentucky Alumni Association; National Ski Patrol; United Way; Boy Scouts of America; The Point/ARC of Northern Kentucky; and the Northern Kentucky Convention & Visitors Bureau. A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Ron and his wife Susan reside in Union, Kentucky. They have two sons: their oldest is an engineer with NASA in Houston, and the youngest is a pharmacist with AbbVie in Chicago.
 
Appointed to ORSANCO in 2012 as a Kentucky Commissioner, Lovan has served as Vice-Chairman and Secretary-Treasurer. He was reappointed for a second four-year term by Governor Bevin in June of this year.

Other elected officers include: Stuart Bruny (Ohio Commissioner) as Vice Chair and Ron Potesta (West Virginia Commissioner) as Secretary-Treasurer. Bruny retired from the Ohio EPA in 2003. Potesta is President of Potesta & Associates.
 
ORSANCO, headquartered in Cincinnati, OH, is the water pollution control agency for the Ohio River and its tributaries representing Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The federal government is also represented.
