Post-Labor Day Fun Awaits in Chincoteague Island
Chincoteague, VA-August 30, 2019
Children are back in school, but summer vacation doesn't have to end for everyone. The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce suggests many great fall events and activities to enjoy on the islands.
Assateague Island National Seashore is still warm and beautiful well into September. Boating, kayaking and fishing are excellent in the fall. Cooler temperatures leading into October are ideal for hiking and biking around Assateague and Chincoteague Islands. Fall's event calendar is full with festivals of every description--including the Chili Chowder Cookoff & Car Show and 47th Annual Chincoteague Oyster Festival, as well as farmers markets and artful flea markets, Misty movie showings, Plein Air Art Show and Sale, Police Department Poker Run for the Kids, Chincoteague Island Library programming, book signings, art classes for all ages, National Wildlife Refuge week, fall roundup of wild ponies, Halloween shenanigans and so much more. Visit
for an updated list of events and links to lodging, dining, and recreational opportunities.
Is Space your thing? Northrop Grumman's Antares is scheduled to launch a cargo shipment to the International Space Station this fall and at least one sub-orbital rocket is set to blast off from NASA Wallops Flight Facility in the coming months. Launch updates will be posted on the chamber's website and social media outlets.
Don't forget to eat!! Restaurant Week on the Eastern Shore of Virginia is October 7-13 and fabulous eateries and restaurants will be serving up generous portions of Chincoteague Salt Oysters and other coastal cuisine..... or chicken and dumplings and delicious steaks if that is more to your liking. Even enjoy fall favorites like pumpkin and apple flavors in local ice cream, muffins and donuts. Spend a day, weekend or enjoy a relaxing fall week making great island memories.
Continue celebrating Virginia Tourism Corporation's 50 Years of LOVE campaign from Cape Charles to Chincoteague as businesses and organizations across the shore are participating in a scavenger hunt sponsored by the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission which includes
