Public Input Requested for Splash Pad in Lakeview Park
Vote by May 16th!
PEORIA (May 7, 2024) – The Peoria Park District is currently soliciting public feedback regarding the features to be incorporated into the planned splash pad situated within Lakeview Park. Community members are encouraged to participate by casting their votes on three distinct splash elements, along with selecting from four available color palette options. This input process is open until May 16, 2024.

In May of the previous year, the District was awarded a grant of $600,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program. This grant serves to support the development of Lakeview Park, which will feature not only an inclusive and high-quality splash pad but also amenities such as a shelter, swings, and restroom facilities.

"We are eager to see this project come to fruition and the enhancement it will bring to the vibrant amenities already offered within Lakeview Park," stated Emily Cahill, Executive Director of the Peoria Park District. "At this time, we are inviting our patrons to actively participate in the design process by providing input on the specific elements they wish to see incorporated into the design of the new splash pad."

Upon the conclusion of the voting process on May 16th, the results will be compiled and a finalized plan will be presented to the District's Board of Trustees, with anticipated approval in late May. The targeted completion date for the splash pad is set for Spring 2025.

The addition of the splash pad in Lakeview Park will compliment the two existing within the District at Proctor Recreation Center and Logan Park. Traditionally, these park facilities operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day, effectively extending the typical swimming season beyond that of conventional pools. Furthermore, the District oversees two outdoor pools, located at Gwynn Family Aquatic Center and Proctor Recreation Center, as well as the indoor AquaPlex at the RiverPlex. The outdoor pools and splashpads are all slated to open within the next month.
