POLK CITY, Fla., Nov. 22, 2016 - The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee has announced the selections for the 2016 U.S. Junior Water Ski Team that will compete in the 16th Junior Water Ski World Championships, Jan. 5-8, 2017, in San Bernardo, Chile. The selections were made based on qualifications criteria that factored performances in record-capability water ski tournaments from the previous 12 months.
Athletes selected to the U.S. Junior Water Ski Team were:
Brooke Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.),
Ryan Canepa (Elk Grove, Calif.),
Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.),
Taylor Grathwohl (Martindale, Texas),
Sean Hunter (Dothan, Ala.), and
Dylan Melnar (Seguin, Texas).
Lori Krueger (Martindale, Texas) will be the coach,
Brenda Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.) will serve as team manager, and
Dr. Kurt Grathwohl (Martindale, Texas) will be the team physician.
In addition to the coveted world team title, athletes from more than 25 countries will compete for individual medals in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall at the Junior Worlds. The United States has won world team titles in 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. France won in 1998 and 2006. Canada won in 2004.
The American Water Ski Association is one of nine sport discipline organizations of USA Water Ski.
