CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Since the City declared a local state of emergency yesterday in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Governor has ordered K-12 public schools closed for two weeks and the Virginia Department of Health's Thomas Jefferson Health District has recommended additional precautions for community gatherings.
As a result, Charlottesville Parks & Recreation will be closing the following facilities effective March 14 until March 27.
Closed
- All Indoor Recreation Centers and Pools
- Downtown Administration Office
- Park Restrooms
Remaining Open
- All outdoor parks and trails
- Meadowcreek Golf Course
Access Pass customers, who are not able to use the facilities due to the closure, will have their passes extended by the number of days closed once the facilities reopen.
Users who do visit one of the open parks or facilities are encouraged to assist in helping reduce the potential spread of the virus by; staying home if you are not feeling well or sick, washing your hands with soap and hot water for 20 seconds, wiping down surfaces after use and avoiding close contact with other users.
Charlottesville Parks & Recreation and the City of Charlottesville will monitor the situation and make an assessment on when it is safe to re-open some or all of the affected facilities. Updates about facilities, classes/programs and events will be on our website at

and through our social media accounts. If you have questions, you can send an email to
