THE U.S.-ANGOLA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE  PROMOTES RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN
The U.S.-Angola Chamber of Commerce (USACC), in partnership with the Consulate of the Republic of Angola in Houston, the Houston-Luanda Sister Cities Association, N'jango - Association of Angolans in Texas, and SOCAPOS hosted a job fair on Friday, May 5, 2017, in the city of Houston.

Candidates were trained by SOCAPOS and N'jango two days before the event on how to present their resume, interviewing and dressing for the interview.

The objective of the event was to assist potential job candidates, from seniors in college to recent graduates, interested in a professional opportunity in Angola.  The job fair had the participation of international companies operating in the Angolan market such as Chevron, Weatherford, YMR Group, PetroAfrica, among others. The companies interviewed more than 60 candidates.

In her welcoming remarks, Ms. Maria da Cruz, President & CEO of the US-Angola Chamber of Commerce (USACC), explained that as a student she interned at USACC where she is now the first Angolan-American appointed President & CEO. "It did not happen overnight, it was more than ten years of work and dedication," said Maria da Cruz.

Ambassador Julia Machado, Consul General of the Republic of Angola in Houston, opened the job fair, showing the Government of the Republic of Angola's commitment in assisting the candidates in finding openings in the workforce. Ambassador Machado encouraged the candidates by saying, "This event is a first step to the professional world.  The country needs your contribution."

Several Angolan students, especially those sponsored by the Ministry of Petroleum, are pursuing academic and professional training courses at higher education institutions in the Houston, Texas.

Present at the job fair were also Mrs. Elma Pegado, President of Sonangol USA; Mr. Henda Valério, Director for Human Resources for Chevron; Mr. Edson Ventura, President of the Houston-Luanda Sister Cities Association; Mr. Muma Makondekwa, President of N'jango; Mr. Agnelo de Brito, Coordinator of Human Resources for SONAMET; Mrs. Otília Viegas, Director of Human Resources at SONILS; and Mr. Luis Miranda, MirandaAlliance Houston.
