Press Release

Casa Mexico at South by Southwest 2017

The Consulate General of Mexico in Austin is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, Casa Mexico will open its doors at South by Southwest 2017 (SXSW), one of the largest and most influential festivals focused on emerging technologies worldwide. For over three decades, during this time of the year, SXSW has gathered entrepreneurs and businesspersons, artists and musicians from different backgrounds around the world in Austin, Texas.

In 2016, SXSW attendance broke records: 30,369 participants for the music segment; 37,660 for the interactive; 19,942 for film; and 7,535 for the Edu segment. Last year, the economic impact of SXSW represented around $325.3 million to the city of Austin alone.

Casa Mexico aims to display Mexico's status as a global leader in technology, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as a modern country with a vast and diverse culture and traditions. Casa Mexico at SXSW represents an excellent opportunity to show a wider perspective of Mexico.

This year, our activities will include live music, entrepreneurship and cultural conferences, Mexican cuisine, art exhibitions, and more. In one of the most ambitious projects, Casa Mexico is bringing more than a hundred Mexican entrepreneurs to participate in several coaching sessions and business pitches to promote the internationalization of Mexican startups while strengthening relations between Texas and Mexico.

Casa Mexico's main venue will be the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (600 River St.) and it will be open for three days, from March 9th to 11th. However, several panels sponsored by Casa Mexico will be held at SXSW official sites in downtown Austin.

Casa Mexico is a joint effort by public and private organizations including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico through the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AMEXCID) and the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin; ProMexico; The Mexican Tourism Board; the Tecnológico de Monterrey, AEM Austin, and International Accelerator. In addition, Casa Mexico is sponsored by the State of Puebla, Aeromexico, Smartcity Latam Expo 2017 Congress, and the StageXchange management platform, among many other supportive local and international sponsors and partners.
