ANNOUNCEMENT!  July 23, 2016
This press release is to keep our membership informed of a major change taking place in our area.

The Board of Far West Championship Horse Show Inc. (Far West) has decided to not continue with the Far West Championship Horse show in June in Redmond OR.  They have approached the Board of MHAO to see if we might have interest in combining the Oregon Morgan Classic and the Far West Championship Horse Show into one show.

The MHAO Board has discussed this and voted to move forward with it.  Our interest in combining the two shows is all that has been discussed so far.  All of the decisions about how we accomplish this are yet to take place.

As President of MHAO, I think this decision is wise given the # of Morgan horses we have competing in our area.  I look forward to this change with excitement, and for what it might mean for the Oregon Morgan Classic.  I think it is a very positive move.  Our current leaning is to keep the show as an all Morgan show.  The general consensus is that the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene OR is a good location for 2017 and possibly into the future.

As we move forward we will re-examine the date of the show and discuss many other aspects of how we need to go about this. Far West will continue as an entity and will still put on the Far West Cowboy Dressage Gathering each year.  That event takes place in Powell Butte OR.  This year’s event is August 5-7, 2016.

Please join me in thanking the Board of Far West Championship Horse Show Inc., their Show Committee, and all their Staff and Volunteers for the fabulous job they have done over the last several years in putting on the current Regional show.  It has truly been the premier Morgan Horse event in our State.

Our next step is to see how we can work together to continue the traditions of both shows.  We have the support & encouragement of AMHA in retaining Regional status for the new combined show.

Feel free to call me with any questions or suggestions.

Best regards,
