Chino's 19th Chief of Police, Kevin Mensen, was sworn in during a public ceremony held August 17 at the Chino Police Department (PD). Chief Mensen, who began his career with Chino PD as a Police Cadet in 1997, has held various roles during his 26-year career with the City of Chino. Mensen was promoted from Deputy Chief of Police.

Mayor Eunice Ulloa thanked Chief Mensen for taking on such an important position in the Chino community, noting, "Your professionalism, approachability, leadership and communication skills make you highly qualified for this position, but it is your strength of character, integrity, and compassion that will ensure your success."

City Manager Linda Reich, who selected Mensen for the post, invited the Chief's family to participate in the ceremony, with Mensen's wife, pinning the Chief of Police badge on him. Mayor Pro Tem Karen Comstock, who retired as Chino PD's 17th Chief of Police, administered the Oath of Office to Mensen.

As Chief of Police, Mensen's vision is to focus on the Department's four Organizational Priorities:

Employee Wellness: To ensure the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of members of Chino PD so they can better serve the community.

Disruption of Crime: To ensure Chino remains a safe place to live, work and play.

Community Engagement: By nurturing, expanding, and building upon Chino PD's close ties and relationships in Chino.

Enhance Quality-of-Life: By prioritizing and paying particular attention to the community's needs and concerns.

Chief Mensen notes that "What makes Chino PD different are the members of this organization. We have the most dedicated professionals in the business. The members of our department care tremendously about our community and have a 'service before self' mindset. But we are also blessed because the Chino community absolutely loves their Police Department and provides us with so much support."

Chief Mensen plans to build on Chino PD's success in disrupting crime, which he credits in large part to the Real Time Crime Center and a commitment to excellence in policing that is changing with the times and technology.

 "Chino is a vibrant City that continues to grow," said Mensen. "Fortunately, our elected officials have provided us with the staffing and resources to keep up with this growth. In July of this year, Chino City Council approved two additional positions, one assigned as a Traffic Officer and the other as a D.A.R.E. Officer. As we move into the future, the Chino Police Department will need to expand so that we can continue to provide the high level of service our community deserves."

Mensen holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice from California Coast University. He is a graduate of the 274th Session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
