PRESS RELEASE

miSci Presents Big Bang Gala on May 5, 6 to 9 p.m.

Fundraising Supports Museum Access for Schenectady's Youth

Schenectady, NY (March 21, 2023) – On Friday evening, May 5, 2023, the Museum of Innovation and Science (miSci) Board of Trustees will host its annual Big Bang Gala. This year's event honors the contributions of Neil Golub since accepting the miSci stewardship baton from the hands of his wife and partner, the late Jane Golub. Their vision for how miSci could become a leading regional hands-on interactive explorium for science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) has catapulted the Museum into what it is today, a signifiant educational resource for the residents of the Greater Capital District.

Doors to the Gala will open at 6 p.m. with a signature cocktail hour to the beats of DJ HollyW8D. Following cocktails, dinner will be provided by the creative talents of chef Will Brown of Crafted Catering and Events. Chef Brown and team promise a tantalizing menu with offerings inspired by Cinco de Mayo. Festive attire is strongly encouraged.

Single tickets to the Gala are $200, and $175 for young professionals (age 40 and under). For more information and to purchase tickets to the event, please visit https://www.misci.org/big-bang-gala/ or call (518) 646-6084.

A portion of the Gala's fundraising efforts will go to support the Museums For All program that provides all 9,600 students in the Schenectady City School District with a complimentary, year-long Family Membership to the Museum.

Schenectady City School District parent and miSci neighbor, Sridevi Nandkishorelal shared, “Our family has always loved the museum. It is so convenient having miSci right here in our neighborhood along with the added bonus of having a free Family Membership for my children.” miSci’s participation in Museums For All, a national, branded access program that encourages individuals of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum habits, began in May 2022.

Since that time, “Museum attendance spiked 60% last summer and this increase in visitors was directly attributable to this unique program,” said miSci president Gina C. Gould, Ph.D. Gould added, “Our invitation encourages a welcoming introduction to science and technology and marks a $1.3M investment in our local K-12 youth and their families.”
