miSci Announces Access Program for Schenectady School Children and Their Families
Museums for All to Increase Accessibility of High-Quality Museum Learning Resources
Schenectady, NY (May 24, 2022) – Today the Museum of Innovation and Science (miSci) announced that it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. miSci's participation in the program includes a collaboration with the Schenectady City School District to provide every enrolled child with a free miSci Family Membership to the Museum.
miSci will begin distribution of the Memberships at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School's International Night that will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26. The school's principal, Kristin Munrett, and miSci President, Gina C. Gould, will be on hand to celebrate the collaboration and to answer questions.
"miSci is committed to welcoming all audiences and to providing children and families with access to hands-on, immersive STEAM programming designed to inspire the next generation to become scientists and their parents science-literate citizens," said miSci President Gina Gould. "We are excited to partner with Museums for All and the Schenectady schools to make this goal a reality."
Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities. More than 800 institutions participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more. Participating museums are located nationwide, representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Virgin Islands.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Stewart's Shops are sponsors of miSci's participation in Museums for All. Additional sponsors will be announced at a future date.
