COLUMBUS (February 8, 2023) — The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies (OACAA) commends Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) for introducing S.B. 39 to exempt certain baby products from sales and use tax. OACAA supports this legislation.
“This legislation is good for families and saves real money for low-income Ohioans,” said Philip E. Cole, executive director of OACAA. “Products like diapers, cribs, and baby carriers are necessary purchases for parents. Eliminating the tax will help to make these items more affordable.”
On average, a child uses more than 2700 diapers in their first year of life, costing between $500-$1300 depending on variables such as brand and bulk purchasing. The initial hearing for S.B. 39 was held this week. The bill proposes amending 5739.01 and 5739.02 of the Ohio Revised Code.
