Nation’s Foremost School Choice Advocate Nukes Sam Page Over Anti-Trump School Choice Platform

Sam Page: Universal school choice means “public money lining the pockets of the rich”

National advocate Corey DeAngelis to Page: “Did Randi Weingarten endorse you yet?”

Universal school choice in North Carolina exists because of the leadership of President Donald Trump, Senate Leader Phil Berger, and the Republican caucuses of the state Senate and House

Eden, NC – The nation’s foremost school choice advocate, Corey DeAngelis, today publicly lambasted Sam Page for his opposition to universal school choice – a core tenet of the Trump agenda that Senate Leader Phil Berger and the Senate Republican caucus have championed for years.

In a March statement, President Donald Trump said “the time for universal school choice has come. As we return education to the states, I will use every power I have to give parents this right.”

But Sam Page last week ripped into the Trump universal school choice agenda in a statement posted to X, insisting on “guardrails” and bizarrely claiming the Trump agenda would “line the pockets of the rich.”

North Carolina enacted universal school choice in 2023, expanding eligibility for the Opportunity Scholarship program to every family with school-aged children in the state. Sam Page has publicly vowed to undo that progress.

Jack Mitchell, campaign manager for Berger said, “Sam Page would take a chainsaw to President Trump’s widely popular, universal school choice agenda after Phil Berger and North Carolina Republicans spent over a decade fighting the do-nothing left-wing establishment that’s failed our students. Sam Page aligns himself with far-left teachers’ unions, while Phil Berger is the workhorse driving the Trump agenda forward in North Carolina.”
