It's St. Patrick’s Day. I always look forward to this celebration to refresh my memory about the wonderful patron saint of Ireland. By the time you read this, St. Patrick’s Day will have come and gone as well as our green apparel, talk of shamrocks and the occasional green beer. But to prepare you for next year, I would like to tell you 5 interesting facts about St. Patrick’s Day and/or its namesake.
1. St. Patrick was born in Britain around the year AD 390 to Roman parents but Irish raiders attacked his family’s estate and took Patrick prisoner, transported him to Ireland and sold him to a Celtic priest as a slave.
2. Patrick later escaped back to Britain but decided to return to Ireland as a missionary.
3. Later Patrick used the shamrock to preach about the Holy Trinity. He explained how just like the 3 leaves of the shamrock, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could be separate entities, yet they are one in the same.
4. Your odds of finding a 4 leaf clover are about 1 in 10,000.
5. St. Patrick did not drive the snakes out of Ireland because they probably never inhabited the the Emerald Isle in the first place. There never was any fossil record of snakes in Ireland and it was too cold to host reptiles during the Ice Age. That being said,
BEWARE! THERE ARE SNAKES IN WASHINGTON D.C. AND IN AUSTIN!!!
And they are destroying our dream for a free and prosperous nation! The primaries have come and gone, notwithstanding a few runoffs, but we have our work cut out for us. Let us now put on our walking shoes and take off our winter gloves so we may start using our dialing fingers to call people and inform them of the true conservative choices that we need to get elected. We at Preston West will do our best to inform you of opportunities to get the word out. In the meantime, call your precinct chair and ask what you can do to help him or her publicize our wonderful Republican candidates. Block walking or calling may not be your thing. There are other things that are needed and we will be calling on you to help where you are led. Thank you in advance for your willingness to rid our great country of the governance by those that do not share our vision or have our country’s best interests at heart.

May your neighbors respect you,
trouble neglect you,
angels protect you and
heaven accept you.

Happy St. Patrick's Day,
Ellen

Political Activities Update
Please remember to report 1st quarter 2022 volunteer hours to me by the end of March. Click here for an outline of what counts. You may email your total number of hours to me here. Thanks!
Also, please note the Voter Registration initiative described below from TFRW Political Activities Director Corrine Miklosh.
Whitney Kielwasser,
VP Political Activities

Volunteer Deputy Registrar Incentive Program
Part of the TFRW Voter Engagement PAC (VEP) project is to get Republican voters registered--new residents, those that have come of age, and ones that had never bothered to vote. Newly registered voters vote at a higher rate than the general population of registered voters. So let’s get them registered and voting.
There are several ways to do this. You can volunteer for the VEP Red Dialer program https://www.tfrw.org/vep/ or you can become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar and register voters in your area.
All clubs are encouraged to get as many of their members as possible to become Volunteer Deputy Registrars. (Click here for Dallas County's VDR instructions.)
In order to encourage all members to become VDRs, we are running an incentive contest. Each club is to get as many of their members as possible to become VDRs, and on April 30th, report to the VP Political Activities the number of members and the number of members who are VDRs.
The club(s) with the highest percentage will win a crystal filled pen for each club member. We hope that these pens will be used to register new voters when you set up voter registration drives in the coming months.
|
|
Please reach out if you have any questions regarding this project, I look forward to reviewing and sharing the final totals and of course the winning club.

Legislative Preview
By Vicky Little, Legislative Chairman
A recent discussion at our Preston West Board Meeting circled back to the same conversations that have been swirling around since the November 2020 election. What happened in 2020? What changes were made to our elections in the name of Covid? Did these measures compromise the integrity of our elections? Are our elections and voting systems secure? Did private donations to local election jurisdictions have an impact on the outcome of the 2020 election? Should Americans have confidence in our elections?
Be sure to check back next month for a special guest column from Debbie Georgatos, America Can We Talk Host as she takes a deep dive into the importance of securing our elections.… Till then, I am including this link to an interactive map of the United States. This site shows a summary of changes that were made by election officials, secretaries of state, courts, and governors across the United States in the months and even weeks leading up to the 2020 Presidential election.
