National Observance Weeks

Gambling Awareness Month

March is National Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), strategically aligned with March Madness to combat the surge in betting-related harms. With billions wagered on NCAA brackets, key safe gambling practices include setting strict time/money limits, avoiding chasing losses, and using gambling helplines. For more information, click here.

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17, began as a religious feast honoring Ireland’s patron saint who introduced Christianity in the 5th century. It has since become a global celebration of Irish culture with parades, wearing green, and festivities. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York City in 1762 by Irish soldiers in the British army. Today, it is also one of the most popular drinking holidays in the U.S. See below for safe drinking tips for the March 17 parade.
