2022 Prevention Needs Assessment Survey
The Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA) Survey was designed to measure the need for prevention services among youth in the areas of substance use, delinquency, antisocial behavior, and violence. The questions on the survey ask youth about the factors that place them at risk for substance use and other problem behaviors along with the factors that offer them protection from problem behaviors. The survey also inquires about the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATODs) and participation in various antisocial behaviors. The survey is administered using a digital link to students in grades 8, 10, and 12 every two years, with the last assessment completed in 2020. It is anonymous and voluntary. The survey results inform the work of the coalitions and ensures that coalition efforts are focused on the needs of the students. We are grateful that Brewster, Carmel, Haldane, Mahopac and Putnam Valley Middle and High Schools will once again be participating this year. The survey will take place between October 24th and November 18th 2022.

Leave Behind Program
The Prevention Council of Putnam in collaboration with Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services and the Putnam County Department of Health is working to implement a county-wide Naloxone Leave Behind Program. Naloxone, or brand name Narcan is an intra-nasal medication that can reverse opioid overdose and is distributed to anyone in New York State who wants to carry it. The program would leverage Putnam County’s 18 existing Fire and EMS companies to provide on-scene training for naloxone and a naloxone kit would be left behind. Naloxone Leave-Behind programs improve linkages to care in the community, reduce opioid overdose deaths and can reduce future overdoses and the strain on the EMS workforce. Naloxone is provided at no cost to EMS companies by the New York State Department of Health. For more information on harm reduction strategies please visit www.preventioncouncilputnam.org.
