Agriculture Working Group

Over the past two years the Agriculture Working Group has focused on trade with a primary examination of NAFTA and the Canada-U.S. Regulatory Cooperation Council Action Plan (RCC). The Working Group continues to provide input on cross-border agricultural trade issues to key decision makers in Ottawa and Washington DC.
Topics of discussion will include:

- The impact of tariffs

The Cross-Border Livestock Health Working Group consists of state, provincial and federal veterinarians and industry representatives. The group exchanges information on animal health issues/concerns, develops a common understanding of disease policies, and exchanges information on emergency response to emerging and foreign animal diseases.

Water Policy Session

|
The Water Policy Working Group provides an important dialogue to address water policy issues throughout the Pacific Northwest region. By connecting with legislators, private-sector and universities, we work to identify best practices to improve water security, adaptation of climate change, and storage options. We also provide updates to the region on the Columbia River Treaty and explore linkages with other working groups, including Invasive Species.
- Targeting research investments to achieve outcomes and resiliency in policy and practice
- Dealing with water scarcity and variability, practical experiences in an irrigation district
- Water resource planning and actions at the state level

Kaiser Aluminum’s Trentwood facility in Spokane County, founded in 1946, is an important part of the supply chain in Aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications, and an integral part of the Spokane community for the past 70 years.
Participants will receive an overview of Kaiser Aluminum’s operations, followed by a tour of their impressive production facilities that play an important role in supporting Washington State’s growing aerospace economy.

Over 5,200 active duty Air Force, Air National Guard, and tenant organization military and civilian employees work on Fairchild, making the base the largest employer in Eastern Washington. Fairchild's annual economic impact on the Spokane Community is approximately $427 million, constituting 13 percent of the local economy.
Attendees will be given a tour of the base's facilities and learn more about the important role the vase plays in the local economy.

Columbia River Treaty Study Tour: British Columbia
|
|
This two day tour will take participants to a number of significant sites along the Columbia River on both sides of the border, and will feature insights from leading experts on recommendations for modernizing the Treaty.
Further details will be announced later but the tour will be from July 26-27: Thursday, departing Spokane at 7 a.m. and arriving back on Friday at around 5 p.m.
