Arizona Law Fall 2026 Event Preview

This fall, events at Arizona Law will bring together members of the community for education and celebration. Constitution Day

Event: Supreme Court Review of Executive Powers Cases with Judge Hurwitz

When: Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, 3:30–5:15 p.m.

Where: University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., Room 168 and Zoom

This annual public program will review the major United States Supreme Court decisions from last term that address executive powers. Presidential actions regarding birthright citizenship, tariffs and removal will headline the discussion. The panel will be Judge Andrew Hurwitz of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Law Shalev Roisman and will be moderated by Dean Emerita Toni Massaro.

Legal Paraprofessional Summit

Event: Fourth Annual Legal Paraprofessional Summit

When: Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Where: University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., Room 164 and online

Arizona Law will host the Fourth Annual Legal Paraprofessional Summit, on campus and virtually. Hear from judges, including keynote speaker Arizona Supreme Court Justice Maria Elena Cruz (BA ’98, JD ’01), experienced legal paraprofessionals, attorneys and more.

Event: Arizona Law’s Red & Blue BBQ

Neumann Lecture

Event: Peter Chase Neumann Civil Justice Lecture Featuring Butch Farabee

When: Monday, Nov. 9, 12:15–1:15 p.m.

Where: University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., Room 168

The Peter Chase Neumann Lecture on Civil Justice is part of Arizona Law’s Civil Justice Initiative, which seeks to elevate the American civil justice system and train the next generation of great trial lawyers. The lecture series began in 2013, with past speakers including Patrick J. McGroder, Richard Fried and Randi McGinn. University of Arizona Law alumnus Peter Chase Neumann (’64) endowed the lecture in 2016. The 2026 speaker is University of Arizona alumnus Butch Farabee, author and former assistant superintendent of Glacier National Park.

Arizona Supreme Court Visit

Event: Arizona Supreme Court oral arguments

When: Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2026, Time TBD

Where: University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., Room 168

As part of its ongoing public education effort, the Arizona Supreme Court will hold oral arguments during its annual visit to University of Arizona Law.

The justices have identified two cases to be presented, and attorneys representing each side will be given 20 minutes to present their arguments. After the second case, the justices will take questions from the audience, as long as those questions do not pertain to the cases they just heard.

Chris Gast Named Southern Arizona 40 Under 40

Congratulations to Senior Director of Student Resources and Professor of Practice Chris Gast, who recently earned a well-deserved spot in the Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 40 Under 40 Awards.

The awards recognize forty exceptional young professionals who are making a meaningful impact across southern Arizona through leadership, innovation, service and achievement.

Chris and the other honorees were celebrated during the 40 Under 40 Awards Breakfast presented by Snell & Wilmer in August. Also named to the list was Double Wildcat Samantha Ansinelli (’17), principal of Tucson firm Ansinelli Law. Arizona Law Director of Admissions and 2024 honoree Ruben Fierros was in attendance as well.

18 Arizona Law Students Get Front-Row Seat During Prosecutor Academy

Over the summer, 18 Arizona Law students participated in the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council (APAAC) Prosecutor Academy.

In partnership with Arizona’s two law schools, APAAC pairs students with participating prosecutors offices for an immersive three-day experience in which students get a picture of what it’s like to be a prosecutor. Since its inaugural year in 2023, the academy has helped students gain an understanding of the field through activities like shadowing attorneys, witnessing courtroom dynamics, drafting motions and participating in mock trials.

Many of the participants are incoming first-year students and the experience offers them the unique opportunity to gain practical insights, forge connections and enhance their legal careers before day one of their legal education.

“At the academy, I had the chance to interact with key individuals of the Pima County Attorney’s Office which allowed me to clarify questions I had on the role of a prosecutor,” said first-year student Theki Chang. “One key takeaway I had from this experience was the fact that prosecutors strive to make the right decision every day, and this unwavering principle I saw envisioned by everyone I met compelled me to pursue a career in prosecution.”

First-year student Jessica Kuna appreciated the opportunity to see the prosecutor’s work up close with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office. During the academy, Kuna attended the sentencing hearing for Karen Marie Northcutt, who was convicted of embezzling from the Habitat for Humanity chapter where she was an executive director. “While I am not interested in prosecution work, I felt this experience gave me an opportunity to see some of the fast-pace direct courtroom experience these attorneys get every day,” said Kuna (pictured second row, second from left above).
