ASAP Fall | 2024

The Board is now accepting applications for a Trail and Facilities Attendant (formerly known as Lead Groomer) and an Operators Coordinator. The Trails and Facilities position is full-time and could be held by one person or as a job share for two people, perhaps someone semi retired? The Operations Coordinator is a 7 month contract position from October to April to cover off our winter and shoulder seasons. If you know someone who would be a great fit for our beloved Wapiti Nordic, please share this opportunity with them ASAP! Thanks in advance.

August 15 | 2024

Big thanks to everyone who took the time to share some fond farewell words for Crawford, who retired on Aug 15th. We will be collating them into a keepsake for him. If you missed out you can still share something if you submit it by Sept 25th.

Trail access may be impacted on the following dates by external groups that have booked events at Wapiti Nordic:

• Sept 14th (Biathlon stadium + 2km loop)
• Sept 16-20th (heavy construction equipment in main stadium)
• Sept 25th
• Oct 7-9th
• Oct 16-19th

Please watch for signage and give them a wide berth. More specific details will be posted on the website and Facebook page closer to each date.

Nov 1 | 2024

Following the low snow year last season, and the Club's projected year end financial position, the Board has voted to skip the annual inflationary increase and freeze all Membership, program and rental rates for the 2024-2025 season. There will still be a 10% Early Bird discount available when annual Memberships go on sale November 1, 2024. Hopefully this good karma brings us tons of snow this coming Winter!

Children's Learn to Ski leaders can enhance their coaching knowledge with free or discounted National Coaching Certification Program courses during National Coaches Week (Sept 16-22). Log into The Locker to access e-learning modules. Sept 16th = NCCP Initiation in Sport. It is also recommended (and soon may be required) to have completed the Safe Sport and Understanding the Rule of Two modules. Any questions email Cori.

In person tours and an Open House will be scheduled for late September / early October. There will be a "hiker" Open House and a separate group ride Open House. And thanks to everyone who has participated in the first survey - there will be another following the Fall Open Houses.

Thanks to everyone who registered and participated in this annual fundraising event. Unfortunately the poor air quality on race day threw an unexpected curve ball. Participants were provided with the option to continue, opt out or delay their race. Please see the email from the DGLW Race Director.

WNSC is in the process of adopting the Safe Sport Policies and Practices that are endorsed by the Provincial and National Sport Organizations that we are associated with. The policies are intended to promote a Safe Sport environment in a manner that allows for consistent, immediate, appropriate and meaningful action should any issues arise, and they are also intended to prevent issues from arising in the first place by communicating expected standards of behaviour. Watch for ongoing updates.

Oct 13 & 27 / 2024

Join us Sunday Oct 13th and / or Sunday Oct 27th @ 11:30am for our try-it session: Introduction to Biathlon Bears. This program is for children (born 2014 & 2015) with an interest in skate skiing and target shooting with the Eco-Aim (electronic) rifles. Younger children are encouraged to practice their skiing skills in the Learn to Ski (Jackrabbits) program before transitioning to Biathlon. The full Biathlon Bears program officially starts Sunday, November 3rd.
