Your financial gifts sustain this organization and help us expand our programs and outreach. Because of your kindness and support, we are well on our way to reaching our $50,000 goal. We hope you will consider donating so we can hit our goal! Click the link above.
Legislative Update
Say No to SB615

SB615 would require school counselors to "out" LGBTQ+ students before affirming information could be shared with the students regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. Any curriculum would have to be approved by the parent or guardian first. Many LGBTQ+ and gender-expansive students seek guidance and support from educators and school counselors, trusting their training and professional skills regarding sexuality and gender identity development. Were SB615 to become law, school counselors and educators would have to contact parents and guardians, "outing" the student before they can provide resources and information.

You should also know that legislators have inserted restrictions on bathroom access for transgender children and youth into the bill.

We need you to call your Senator and tell them you do not support this bill and want them to oppose it.

First Thursday Art Exhibition:
Jeff Nguyen's "String & Time"
Up Through May
Dennis R. Neill Equality Center
621 E. 4th St., Pride Street
Tulsa, OK 74120

Jeff Nguyen is a young Vietnamese artist. He grew up in Ha Tinh province, which is on the central coast of Vietnam. He developed his passion for drawing when he was ten years old. He drew a lot of landscape scenes with pencils, crayons, and markers. His first painting in oil paint was ‘Jesus Christ the King’ (59”x7.9”) when he was 13 years old. As he grew older, he became interested in computers but still kept his passion for drawing. He entered college and graduated with a major in Graphic Design and has been working as a graphic designer for over ten years. He designs logos, name cards, brochures, flyers, posters, restaurant menus, banners, standees, labels, boxes, and media for websites, etc. Not satisfied with that, he always tries to find unique ways to express his creativeness and imagination using different materials and mediums. This exhibition ‘String & Time’ is one of his favorite projects.

The show opens with The Artist Reception with Jeff Nguyen at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center located at 621 E. 4th Street Tulsa, OK 74120, on Thursday, May 5th, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. The exhibit continues throughout the month.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support the #EqualityAct. So let's make our message clear: Contact your Senator today and tell them to #PassTheEqualityAct! Call 888-439-0303 to get started.

The Equality Act would provide consistent anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans in areas like housing, education, federally funded programs, credit, public spaces, healthcare, and more. Tell your Senators it's #EqualityTime. https://lgbtactionlink.org/equality-act
People who identify as LGBTQ+ can still be fired, denied housing, or refused service in many parts of the nation. Passing the #EqualityAct will change that. Tell your Senators to support federal nondiscrimination protections and learn more here: https://lgbtactionlink.org/equality-act

Follow the link below to find your US Senators.
Do you, your partner, or your family members qualify for SNAP or Soonercare benefits? American citizens living in Oklahoma who make less than roughly $19k a year qualify for these free government services, and Tulsa Responds navigators would love to help you get enrolled and support you in the process of using those benefits. In addition, if you have Soonercare but have not updated your contact information with Soonercare in the last couple of months, there is a good chance you will be unenrolled from Soonercare this summer. To get these services or avoid being kicked off Soonercare/SNAP, please make an appointment for assistance at www.tulsaresponds.org/healthinsurance or call 918-900-0918 ext.3 to make an appointment today.
As a sign of our thanks and gratitude, OKEQ is excited to announce that all new, monthly donors supporting us at $25/month and above will receive a complimentary OKEQ T-Shirt with confirmation of their monthly donation.
