A quick note: Fourth grade families should check their email for an important notice sent out earlier today regarding a temporary move to distance learning.
Be Sweet to Others Day February 11

Typically at Meridian, we like to take the day closest to Valentine’s Day to be sweet to others. This is not usually one of our party days. Instead, in the past, students could exchange kind notes to one another and the grade level participated in a service learning project.

As you’ve hopefully already heard in your grade-level newsletters, this year, because of our circumstances, we will not be having students exchange Valentines in class.

Many grade levels will still encourage students to find ways to take action and be kind to others either on February 11 or 12 (our asynchronous day), and our 5th grade is sponsoring a school-wide action (information below).

As a special treat February 11, students can wear spirit wear or a Valentine-themed or “caring for others” themed shirt instead of their uniform.
5th Grade Sponsored Food Drive

Fifth Grade has been learning about global issues as part of their current IB unit of inquiry, with the central idea of Action facilitates change in structure and organization. Our students have already started learning about hunger in America and will continue to explore this challenging issue as we work to make a difference for our neighbors.

As a form of action, they are sponsoring a food drive to benefit local organizations likeThe Caring Place and the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Donation Boxes for canned goods and boxes of cereal will be placed around the Primary building February 8–11, inside and outside near the front entrance, and students of all ages are encouraged to donate.

Alternatively, families can donate funds directly to the Central Texas Food Bank. These funds are shared among the local food banks. 5th grade is excited to share this project with the Meridian community in hopes of making a difference in the lives of people in our wider community.

From the Health Team Regarding Masks

Please check the fit, fabric and condition of your student's chosen face mask. There should be no gaps anywhere around the cheeks, chin or nose.

As we begin the new year, please remember how important a properly cleaned, snug fitting, minimum of 2-ply non-woven fabric FACE mask is every day! Pack a second mask (in a sealable bag to keep it clean) inside your child's backpack as a backup.

The CDC tells us stretch fabric and bandanas were not found to be effective in protection. Thank you so much for all you are doing to keep everyone as safe as possible!
Requests for Temporary Distance Learners

For our on-campus students, a temporary move to distance learning can be helpful during a short-term illness and a necessity if quarantining is required. It is not to be used as a general convenience.

To be approved, requests must meet multiple criteria:*

• Medical need (doctor’s note, need for quarantining)
• Duration of absence (at least three days)
• Timely notification of need (at least one day prior to switch)

If you need to request temporary distance learning for your child, please submit this form at least one day prior to the expected switch.

*5th grade requests may be more readily approved due to the structure of learning in 5th grade.
