GROWTH SPURT: EXPANSION ADDS TO MGM'S ALREADY FULL, FLOWING MANE
Casino adds 38k sqft of gaming space including new, larger Poker Room, Race Book, and terrace overlooking the Potomac...
Play on playa! W hen you're the big fish on the Potomac, Grand Poobah of Maryland casinos (#1 in revenue), and one of the biggest additions to the DMV tourism & entertainment scene, what in the "Helsinki" do you do for an encore?

SIMPLE ADDITION!  The MGM NATIONAL HARBOR Resort Casino opened its newest amenity last month - a sparkling second-level gaming area. The $48 million expansion includes a new, larger poker room, 285 slots, off-track horse betting parlor (in partnership with the Maryland Jockey Club), bar, food option, and a beautiful new terrace overlooking the Potomac. All constructed as part of a reconfigured area on the second level, blending beautifully with MGM's already wonderful ambiance.

The relocated Poker Room (from the main floor) ups the number of tables from 39 to 46, and now includes a semi-private two table high-stakes poker salon.

The addition is a lion's roar. And, it makes all the more sense when you consider - with room to grow - MGM National Harbor is Maryland's top casino, and will easily eclipse the billion dollar mark in gaming revenue (by the time July receipts are tallied). Darn impressive...in less than 20 months of operation.

RUN LIKE A MOTHER: COMBO 5K, STROLLERS, GOOD TIMES, FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Family-oriented 5k event comes to National Harbor, featuring fun run, Mom Expo, Kid's Camp...
In fairness to all the running fathers out there, you don't have to be a "mom" to participate. THE STROLLER RUN, one of the more unique events on the 5k grid, is coming to National Harbor, August 11, 10 am. Stroller Run is a fun-filled 5k designed for runners and their kids with a philanthropic twist. It benefits local children's charities.

The race is not about a clock or distance. It's more about getting out and about, being active with your little ones, and socializing with other active families. After the run, there's a free Stroller Run Kid's Camp with child care provided by Care.com, and a Mom Expo.

DINE DELIGHT: NEW RESTAURANT OPENS ON GROUND FLOOR OF THE NEW CAMBRiA
Add another gem to the College Park dine scene, as the new College Park Grill opens at the city's newest hotel...
Speaking of CAMBRiA Suites, its debut also ushers-in a new restaurant. The COLLEGE PARK GRILL , opening August 1 at CAMBRiA, brings an upscale groove that's cool and relaxed. The menu is filled with favorites based on locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients. Comfort delights and classic entrees include chicken, fish, USDA Prime steaks, and baby back ribs. And, the open kitchen's centerpiece, an artisan wood-fired oven, will be pumping out authentic pizzas and other specialties.

The beer, bar & wine scene will also be robust. You can expect 12 beers on draft, a unique line of cocktails, up to 100 different wines, with as many as 15 by the glass.

On a musical tip, live jazz will be in house nightly, so its the perfect place to unwind with an app, entree, or libation joined by an evening of great sounds. Sunday Jazz Brunch is also in the mix.

The College Park Grill comes to us by way of Adam Greenberg and Restaurant Zone Inc. A vet of the restaurant scene, Adam is also the driving force behind Potomac Pizza and Bagels 'n Grinds, both with outposts in THE HOTEL @ UMD.

DIVA-STYLE: WOMEN'S PRO BALL MAKES CONF FINAL, MISSES BIG DANCE BY THREE
All-Women, full-contact pro football team just points short of going to another National Championship...
Not winning doesn't make you a loser. Ask one of the most celebrated teams in women's professional football.  Just three points erased the opportunity for the DMV's only all-women, full-contact pro team from heading to yet another National Championship.

Last month, Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex's Marvin Wilson Stadium was full blaze as the DC DIVAS hosted the Women's Football Alliance National Conference Championship game. In what was a exciting contest - against their arch-rivals, the Boston Renegades - t he Divas were on the wrong end of victory, falling 34-32. A win would have meant a trip to the WFA National Championship in Atlanta, their fifth trip to the championship game.

In 17 seasons, the Divas have had three undefeated seasons, 14 playoff appearances, won 13 division titles, and three National Championships. In fact, with their championship runs in 2015 and 2016, t he Divas became the first team in Women's Football Alliance history to win back-to-back titles.

We're looking forward to the Divas making another championship run next season.

HOME RUN: MLB ALL-STAR GAME LEAVES PGC FIELD UPGRADE IN ITS WAKE
County's Walker Mill Regional Park the beneficiary of MLB community enrichment project...
The 2018 MLB All-Star Game (held at Nationals Park in Washington DC on July 17) may be long over, but the residual for Prince George's County continues.

That's because PGC's WALKER MILL REGIONAL PARK in Capitol Heights was one of the recipients in this year's MLB All-Star Legacy Initiative. The program provided $5 million in donations to support development efforts in DC, NoVA and Prince George's County, as well as MLB's national charitable partners.

The new "Nationals All-Star Field" at Walker Mill is a full rebuilding of an existing ball field. The initiative also funded new irrigation system, covered dugouts, improved seating with shaded bleachers, fences, batting cages, new scoreboard, and storage areas.
