DINE-O-MITE: UNASSUMING CP SPOT IS ONE OF DMV'S VERY BEST DINES, AGAIN
|
|
Authentic Northern Chinese outpost in College Park once again named one of the very best restaurant in the region...
The DMV restaurant scene has mushroomed into a thing of dining beauty.
Some of the country's very best plates, spaces, and chefs can now be experienced across the Washington DC-metro.
From cheap eats to high-end, options are plentiful for creative and tasty morsels from around the block, around the way, and around the world.
So, when food critics proclaim - in a crowded field of fantastic restaurants - that you're one of the very best...that's saying something.
Located at 7313 Baltimore Ave, NCF is a
foodie favorite hiding in plain sight. Remarkably unpretentious, unassuming, and quite inexpensive considering the high quality of food and flavor.
Let's be clear. This is not your Americanized, homogenized stir-fry. The cuisine is truly authentic Northern Chinese. The real deal featuring dishes that hail from Shenyang in China's Liaoning Province, a region known for big, bold flavors.
NCF is not fancy, as the effort is in the food. So, don't look for a website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitty-bits, or other online windows. Connection is drop-by or reservation (240-714-4473). The fact that NCF is offline is for good reason. The operators are too busy dishing out great cuisine (to adoring diners and food critics) to be worried about the virtual world.

HARBOR ART: NAT CREATES APP & TOUR TO EXPERIENCE ITS CREATIVE TREASURES
|
|
National Harbor has one of the area's most unique collections of outdoor art, now there's an app to help you see it...
One of the DMV's most amazing collections of art isn't downtown, or in a gallery or museum. Its along the waterfront and throughout the complex at NATIONAL HARBOR.
Ten plus years in the making and still growing, the collection includes works by local and nationally-known artists. From the "The Awakening", to "The Beckoning", to the recent installation of "America's Team" (honoring the five branches of our US military), the abundance of creativity is monumental.
To help visitors navigate and enjoy the many artistic installations, the NAT has launched a new "Guide by Cell" app.
The easy-to-use app provides a free guided tour that
begins at the waterfront with the world-renowned sculpture, "The Awakening" by J. Seward Johnson, and literally guides you to each of the NAT'S amazing pieces throughout the complex.
According to Deborah Topcik, Director of Marketing for the NAT, "In addition to our prime waterfront location and the many attractions at National Harbor, we want visitors and residents to also be able to enjoy our unique collection of art in a beautiful outdoor setting. Our outdoor art gallery is open to the public at no charge and now we also have a great guide-by-cell tour that explains the art, the history of many of the persons depicted in the art, and the artists who created the art."
The NAT's "Guide by Cell" app can be downloaded by texting ACNH to 56512.

DINE DELIGHT: HERALDED NEW RESTAURANT HOPES TO OPEN THIS MONTH IN MT. RAINIER
|
|
The highly anticipated Pennyroyal Station is working to open this March, plans to be a premier gathering place for food and drink...
Quick update on the Mount Rainier dine scene. The highly anticipated PENNYROYAL STATION restaurant and bar may open within the coming weeks (barring the unforeseen).
Located at 3310 Rhode Island Avenue, it is centerpiece of the newly redeveloped Singer Building.
The restaurant is situated at Town Circle across from City Hall, and the former location of the Mount Rainier suburban streetcar.
Sized at just under 2.7k square feet, it will be a gathering hub with both indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. As for decor, Pennyroyal will provide
a vintage-inspired ambiance pulling details from the 1940's era, while incorporating modern touches, mirroring the architecture of the neighborhood and the vitality of the community.
Pennyroyal Station
comes to us from the "fantastic food" minds of Chef Jesse Miller & restaurateur Erin Edwards (DC's Bar Pilar & Cafe Saint-Ex), along with beverage aficionado Garrick Lumsden (formerly with Passion Food Group).
SO, WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM? According to the operators, the restaurant's name draws inspiration from the site's historical coincidences. Pennyroyal, a flowering herb native to Washington State and also found in the valley of Mount Rainier, is a nod to the Seattle surveyors who founded the City of Mount Rainier. Station evokes the nostalgic pride of a time when Mount Rainier was the last stop, and the only suburban streetcar stop, outside the district's streetcar line.

FRU-GEEZY: NEWEST FAST-CASUAL CRAZE BLOOMING IN COLLEGE PARK
|
|
Plant-based food bowls featuring Acai and other ingredients now being served at two outpost in College Park...
Bowls made of plant-based ingredients have become the rage (or flavor of the moment) around the country. Highly satisfying, fruit & plant-based bundles of flavor, featuring Acai. Great as a nourishing pick-me-up, snack, or meal.
We're happy to say, the trend has made its way to Prince George's.
Two unrelated establishments have opened in College Park - within the last 10 months.
First,
FRUTTA BOWLS
opened last June at 8150 Baltimore Ave. Then, earlier this year,
PLAYA BOWLS
opened at 7417 Baltimore Ave.
What you can expect from both is colorful, fresh, healthy "fruitified" concoctions delivered in bowls, fruit drinks, and smoothies.
Central ingredients include Acai, Pitaya, and Coconut matched with other diverse plant-based stuff to create a taste sensation (that's good for you).

EAT BEAT: NEW VIETNAMESE BISTRO BLOOMS IN RIVERDALE PARK
|
|
New Vietnamese eatery at Riverdale Town Center stages soft opening, expanded dining hours on the way ...
Located at 6202 Rhode Island Avenue, in the Riverdale Town Center, BBB opened for biz on February 6 and is a welcomed addition to an expanding corridor.
BBB is best described as an upscale fast-casual Vietnamese restaurant with a modern twist on Noodle Soups, Rice Plates, and Noodle Bowls.
After a soft opening, expanded hours will be announced shortly. As for size, the restaurant seats about 46 and will have outdoor seating when the weather breaks.
SO, WHERE IS RIVERDALE TOWN CENTER? Once the hub of Riverdale Park in the historic district, it's a block off of Baltimore Ave/Route 1. It is also just around the
corner from the popular new
Riverdale Park Station,
which is on Baltimore
Ave.
