Commissioner A. Shuanise Washington recently shared her experience as a public servant and her expertise as business leader and an entrepreneur as the keynote speaker for the Miami Dade (Fla) Chamber of Commerce's Women's Business Council annual luncheon.

The institution is the only Black Chamber of Commerce in South Florida, and has been serving the African- American business community in the area for more than four decades.

During the interactive session, Ms. Washington fielded a variety of questions from current and future women business leaders and entrepreneurs ranging from how to accelerate individual success in the boardrooms of corporate America, to identifying challenges and solutions in today's increasingly shared economy. As a business leader who has worked in the private, small business, local government and nonprofit arenas, Ms. Washington spoke candidly about transferring portfolios and experiences across business units, mastering company culture, and identifying and developing internal and external support systems.

In closing, Ms. Washington urged the women to do an assessment of their current business engagement to identify growth potential, to create vehicles that will connect them to their next business opportunity and to stay involved with the Chamber as their collective voice to lead and broker the political, economic and social landscape in South Florida.
