A Letter From Our Pastor

You Are Blessed!

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him.
7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not
      stay near you.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! (Psalm 32)

Here in this psalm, David doesn’t cover up the fact that he is a sinner. When he tried to ignore that fact, things got downright unbearable for him. He felt like his body was wasting away; he felt God’s heavy hand upon him; his strength was all but gone. Then he did what every sinner must do, he admitted the truth about himself. He acknowledged to God his sinful thoughts, words, and deeds. He didn’t try to put a spin on them to make himself not look so bad; no, he simply told the truth about himself. That’s not easy to do; as a matter of fact, it is a very painful thing to do. This is why confession of sin is a work and gift of God. His Holy Spirit searches us and leads us to tell the truth about ourselves, but He doesn’t just leave us there wallowing in our sins; no, God makes us a promise: if we confess our sins, He will be faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

When David admitted to God how he had fallen short, how he had missed the mark, God did the most amazing thing; God forgave David’s sin! We don’t need to hide from God, but God invites us to hide in Him! We, as Christians, hide in the righteousness of Christ; we hide under the shed blood of Jesus which cleanses us from all our sins. Jesus, indeed, preserves us from trouble, from judgement, from condemnation, and he rescues us from our bondage to sin, death, and the Devil with shouts of victorious deliverance.

My friends, did you catch the promise at the end of this psalm? “Steadfast love surrounds the one who trust in the LORD.” That promise is for you. Trust in the one who loves you, who so loved you that he sent his only son to die for you that you may not perish but have eternal life.

As we trust together, let live this life together with gladness, rejoicing, and shouting for joy – for you and I are truly and eternally blessed.

Join the celebration of Lutheran Hour Ministries Sunday on February 7, 2021, LHM Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate the difference the Lord is making in lives around the world.

90 years ago, on Oct. 2, 1930, Dr. Walter A. Maier launched The Lutheran Hour. Families gathered in their living rooms each week to hear the hopeful message of the Gospel provided by the radio broadcast. While LHM’s impact has grown over the past 90 years beyond the simple radio, spiritual growth within homes is still a vital component for strengthening the family of God.

This year, LHM Sunday will focus on the spiritual vibrancy of our own households, The timeliness of this is so important since people are spending more time at home than they have before, offering a great opportunity to examine our own households.
Join us for our Ash Wednesday service at either 4 or 7pm on February 17th. This service begins our 40 day journey through the season of Lent, helping us to reflect on our need for a savior leading us all the way to the foot of Jesus' cross on Good Friday and His empty grave on Easter Sunday.
