A Letter From Our Pastor

A Prayer for the Nation

Thursday, May 6th, is the National Day of Prayer. Even though we pray for our nation and its leaders every Sunday, it is good to set aside a day to call people to prayer. Prayer is a wonderful gift God gives us that benefits us in so many different ways. Prayer calls us to faith in God and his promises when we look to him in prayer. Prayer centers our faith on God our Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. It humbles us as we look to God and cast our cares upon him. Prayer helps us to love others as we pray for them. Prayer helps us to ask God for those things we need and to admit the truth of our need. There are so many blessings to prayer – God knows that, so he invites us to pray for ourselves, our loved ones, our leaders, and even our enemies, and he promises to answer us.

Tomorrow, let us set aside time to intentionally join our voices of faith in prayer and lay before the throne of God’s grace those in need of our Lord’s wisdom, guidance, care and hope. Below is a prayer specifically written for our nation; This is a good start:

“Almighty God, You have given us this good land as our heritage. Grant that we remember Your generosity and constantly do Your will. Bless our land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honorable way of life. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil course of action. Grant that we, who came from many nations with many different languages, may become a united people. Support us in defending our liberties, and give those to whom we have entrusted the authority of government the spirit of wisdom, that there may be justice and peace in our land. When times are prosperous, may our hearts be thankful, and in troubled times do not let our trust in You fail; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen”
