A Letter from Pastor Sheek

What are You Afraid Of?

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31).

What are you afraid of? Getting sick? Losing your job? Cancer? Homelessness? Failing at something or failing someone? Bankruptcy? The livelihood of your children and grandchildren? Not being like or having any friends? Death? The list can go on and on, right? Our lives are always being threatened by someone or something trying to undo us, and it can get unnerving. Fear can truly be debilitating; it can throw your life into a tailspin. It can paralyze you into inaction or drive you to overreaction, can you relate?

Our Lord Jesus speaks the words above to his disciples as he sends them out into the world to proclaim His gospel, and Jesus knows there will be opposition, forces trying to undo them and their message. He tells them what to not be afraid of and one thing they should be afraid of.  “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both body and soul in hell.” Powerful words! Jesus puts things in perspective, doesn’t He? Who are you going to fear? Whose words are you going to listen to? Who are you going to trust?

The world, your inner voice, and even the Devil himself are continually adding to the list of things and people we ought to fear, respect, and listen to besides God. Jesus lays it out plainly; there is only one we should fear, because he has not only your present life but your eternal in His hands.

Yet, in Jesus, God is our Father who has us in His gracious hands. So, Jesus can add to His words, “fear not.” God, your loving Father, has even the hairs of your head numbered. He knows you; He knows all the things that you are afraid of that keep you up at night. He knows, and He cares, because you are valuable to Him.

My dear friends, you are treasured by God because you are His son and daughter in Christ. What do you and I have to really be afraid of? What could ever separate you and me from the love and care of God snatching us out of His hands? You know the answer; nothing! No one and no thing can take away from you what Jesus gives to you. Cling on to Him. Don’t let go of His promises to you. They are more precious than gold. You can stake your life on them; He did, and He did it for you.

A Word from Our Principal
We were excited to be able to celebrate eighth grade graduation with our seven wonderful young adults and their families. They were a great class. We are sorry to see them go, but we know that God has special plans for them. They will accomplish great things.

We are hearing that public schools are planning options for students that don't include being in the classroom everyday. Since we are a small school, we believe that we will be able to practice social distancing and still have all the students in class everyday.

Our theme for the 2020-21 school year is: "Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Ps. 51:10 The faculty is now on summer break, but we are all excited and making plans for the new year to come.

Prince of Peace hosting 3-day Continuing Education Class
Prince of Peace will be hosting the following 3 day continuing education course from CTSFW

Letters from a Lonely Lutheran:
Confidence and Joy Under the Cross
June 30th, 2020 - July 2nd, 2020

Feat. Course Presenter: Professor John T. Pless

This class will examine the pastoral letters of Hermann Sasse (1895-1976) as he encouraged brother pastors the worldover to continue steadfast in the hope that does not disappoint. We will read and discuss letters that were forged in times of crisis both in the world and the church. Sasse wrote to pastors often living in isolation brought about by geography or confession. Sometimes both. He filtered all of theology and all of life through the lens of the cross. He is a model for us today even as he continues to teach us the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions. He was a theologian of the cross in a time of crisis. His witness will inspire our own.

This course is geared towards those that work in ministry but is open to anyone who may be interested in learning more about what is means to be a Lutheran. We invite and encourage anyone in the congregation that may be interested, to attend . For more information and to register for this course please click the button below:
