A Letter from Pastor Sheek

Who’s praying for you?

My grandmother turned 103 yesterday. She is a wonderful Christian lady, a loving and thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother. She has never failed to send a card on our birthdays, and she always includes in her card that she is praying for us kids. She tells me regularly on the phone that she prays for all her family every day. I remember hearing those words as a teenager, and they went in one ear and out the other, or so I thought. God was listening, and He answered.

Who’s praying for you? Who in your life is talking to God and asking Him to care for you, to strengthen you in faith, or perhaps to grant you faith? More than you realize. It is so easy to slip into thinking that we have to go it alone in this life, or at least we feel that way. Raising our kids, going to work, struggling with illness, providing for ourselves and others, caring for those who depend on us, struggling with depression or deep sadness. Dealing with these and many other challenges in our lives truly can lead us into thinking we need to deal with these on our own – nobody understands what we are going through and no one really can help.

Here is something to consider: You are being prayed for; you are, whether you realize it or not. You have people in your life who are interceding for you, praying on your behalf, before God in heaven. I know this for a fact. I know the elders of our church pray for you – each and every family at Prince of Peace church and school. I know our principal, preschool director, and all the teachers pray for the families of our preschool and school. I pray for all of you. True, we often don’t know all of the specifics of what you need and all of the
things you may be dealing with but God does, and we commend you into His hands. Oh, and by the way, there is another who prays for you, Jesus. Paul writes in Romans 8:34, “Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Did you realize this? Jesus himself is praying for you, and He knows all that you are going through and exactly all that you need.

My dear friends, you are being prayed for, whether you realize it or not, and those prayers are not falling on deaf ears. Our heavenly Father delights in the prayers of His people and He listens and answers; He has
promised as much. May these words comfort you and help you to see all the ways God has been listening and answering other’s prayers for you, even the prayers of His Son for you. You are being covered in prayer,
covered in grace, covered by the blood of Jesus Christ himself. We have this privilege in Christ, to share this life together, to pray for each other, to go through these days together in faith as a one big family of God. My grandmother helped me to realize the privilege and power of prayer – I hope you do as well.

Letters from a Lonely Lutheran:
Confidence and Joy Under the Cross
June 30th, 2020 - July 2nd, 2020

Feat. Course Presenter: Professor John T. Pless

This class will examine the pastoral letters of Hermann Sasse (1895-1976) as he encouraged brother pastors the worldover to continue steadfast in the hope that does not disappoint. We will read and discuss letters that were forged in times of crisis both in the world and the church. Sasse wrote to pastors often living in isolation brought about by geography or confession. Sometimes both. He filtered all of theology and all of life through the lens of the cross. He is a model for us today even as he continues to teach us the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions. He was a theologian of the cross in a time of crisis. His witness will inspire our own.

This course is geared towards those that work in ministry but is open to anyone who may be interested in learning more about what is means to be a Lutheran. We invite and encourage anyone in the congregation that may be interested, to attend . For more information and to register for this course please click the button below:
