Princeton administrators to schedule townhall meeting

In an effort to hear feedback from the community, the PISD board moved forward with a plan to conduct a townhall meeting to gather input on the possible expansion of the school marshal program.

Once the meeting has been scheduled, information will be released to the community.

Board members approve new administrator

The Princeton ISD Board of Trustees approved an administrative change and several new hires during Monday night’s meeting.

Godwin Elementary School’s admin staff was finalized with the addition of Maygan Wall as the school’s assistant principal. Mrs. Wall was previously with the district from 2019-2021 serving as a math teacher at Southard before leaving for a year to teach science and coach at Caddo Mills. Mrs. Wall had already returned to PISD for the coming school year to teach and coach at Clark before the administration opportunity opened. Prior to Princeton ISD, she worked in Redwater and Texarkana ISDs. Mrs. Wall is a graduate of Texas A&M-Texarkana with a major in psychology and received her master’s from Texas A&M-Texarkana in both curriculum and instruction and educational administration.

Board OKs updated timeline for future schools

In an effort to minimize the use of portable buildings across the district, trustees approved an adjusted timeline for two construction projects.

For the 2024 school year, two new campuses will open, as well as the expansion of Lovelady High School to add 10th-graders to the campus.

To follow these construction timeline changes, board members approved the design and development plan of all three projects at Monday night's board meeting.

Originally, Marcella Green Elementary was scheduled to open in 2024 in the Whitewing Trails neighborhood. Under the new timeline, Janice James Elementary will also open in 2024 adjacent to Buddy and Marilyn Mattei Middle School, which opens in the fall of 2023 on County Road 728 between FM 546 and County Road 392,

In addition, the Lovelady expansion will also add an academic wing to the school in time for the 2024-2025 school year.

PISD CALLS SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION FOR NOV. 8

With positions up for election on the school board, trustees voted to call an election for Nov. 8 to choose trustees for a total of two places.

Filing for a place on the board will begin Monday, July 25.

The general election was called to fill two expired terms, which are 3-year terms. Incumbents for these places on the board are Carol Bodwell and Starla Sharpe.

The top two vote-getters will be elected as trustees.

The deadline to file for the general election is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22.

Trustees propose lower tax rate for new budget year

The PISD Board of Trustees proposed to lower the tax rate to $1.4429 for the upcoming 2022-2023 budget year.

"We are pleased we were able to reduce the tax rate again," Superintendent Donald McIntyre said.

The breakdown of the proposed tax rate is .9429 cents for maintenance and operation and .50 cents for debt reduction, which represents a decrease of nearly 2 cents or .0174 cents per $100 valuation from this year's rate of $1.4603.

In addition, board members completed their second budget workshop Monday night, and there will be a public hearing for the district's 2022-2023 spending plan at the August meeting.

Trustees will vote on the proposed budget and tax rate at the Aug. 15 meeting.
