Dean's Notes

As a prospective graduate student, you are constantly gathering information to guide the next step of your graduate school journey. This is the time of the year to think about the importance of networking. We know that approaching new people, organizations, or institutions may make you feel nervous, and it's OK. But you can use that energy to power through the conversation or to write that e-mail. Don't lose sight of your motivations, career goals, and appetite for learning. Remember, your current network is larger than you know. Think about who is already in your orbit like professors, mentors, advisors, and even your peers.

You’ve got what it takes to network, and you are in a position to create your own possibilities!

Every night growing up when my dad would tuck me in he would say, "you are smart, you are beautiful and you can do anything." This affirmation continues to motivate, inspire and challenge me to achieve my dreams and represent my ancestors in all I do...."
