Dear Oyster Adams Families,
I did not and still do not have all the words or wisdom to describe my feelings from this week as I watched the insurrection and chaos unfold at the Capitol in a perilous pursuit to derail the path of social justice and our democracy. I am, however, proud of our teachers and staff and the way they showed up for students this week. While 2021 may be a new year, we are still all going through a very heavy time and I encourage us all to approach one another with kindness and understanding. The collective grief that we are experiencing is big and heavy and many are dealing with it in silence. I am hopeful and thank the mayor for prioritizing educators in her phased roll-out of the vaccine, the target date for DCPS employees to begin making appointments for vaccines is January 25th.
As a reminder, this week is a full 5 day week followed by a 5 day weekend:
1/18: Monday (MLK day)
1/19: Tuesday (no school for DCPS)
1/20: Inauguration for the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden and Madam Kamala Harris (no school for DCPS)
