Message from the Principal

I love the fall holiday season with my Giant family, beginning with Halloween.  Earlier this week I attended the annual Halloween concert for our D112 students and I enjoyed every minute watching our HPHS performers.  In fact, it was a spooky good time!

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, I want to remind you about the delicious pies sold annually by our PTO.  Please use this link to reserve your pies now.  You can also donate a pie to the Moraine Township Food Bank. Deadline is November 6.

ATHLETICS

Our Football Team qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2017.  Congratulations to all the players and coaches on their 49-34 victory over Vernon Hills on Friday.  The team finished the regular season 6-3 and will play Mather High School on the road in the 1st round of the Class 6A IHSA playoffs this weekend.

Our Girls Cross Country Team finished 5th at the Loyola Regional and will move on to the IHSA Sectional Meet at Busse Woods on Saturday, October 28th.  Congratulations to the athletes and coaches.

Our Boys Cross Country Team also advanced to Saturday’s Sectional Meet.  The Boys finished 2nd at the Regional and were led by Nate Wehner and Brian Hatoum who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Congratulations to the entire program.

Highland Park High School will be hosting the CSL North Conference Swim Meet on the morning of 10/28.  Come out to watch our Girls Swim Team compete against the best in the Central Suburban League North Division.

The inaugural season of Girls Flag Football came to an end with a playoff loss to Evanston this past week.  Congrats to the trailblazing athletes who helped get this program off the ground and to the staff members who sacrificed for the unknown and gave a tremendous amount of their time to make this a reality.  Shoutout to coaches Jen Fahey, Sarah Holsen, Jen Loewenstein, Alyssa Wilson, Lydia Gonzalez and Colleen Boilini.  Special thanks to many of our Football coaches who often stayed after their own practices to support the flag football team.

Tonight, October 26th our Athletic Department will be holding an Athletics Registration/Information Night.  It will be at 6:30pm in the HPHS student cafeteria.  This event is geared toward families who are new to the registration process and have students interested in trying out for winter and/or spring sports.  We also have former college coach Todd Scheuerman coming at 7:30pm to speak with families about the college recruiting process.  All are welcome!

At last week’s Division 2 AD's meeting, our own Colleen Boilini was voted Assistant Athletic Director of the Year for our entire division. There are 7 divisions in our state.  To be one of 7 Assistant ADs chosen for this honor says a lot about the respect Colleen has earned during her time in high school athletic administration.  Congratulations to Colleen on this well deserved recognition!

DEANS

We are looking forward to celebrating a Halloween that aligns with our GIANT Values. Take a moment to look at our  Halloween Costume Guidelines

In case you missed it last week, we want to provide an important update regarding our school's parking regulations and enforcement policies. We understand that parking has been frustrating for some of our students and parents who have paid for parking spots and found them unavailable upon arrival at school. We want to address this concern and ensure parking spaces are used fairly and efficiently.

Security has closely monitored parking infractions and documented violations in response to this issue. There have been several instances of vehicles receiving multiple violations, which is a cause for concern. We are implementing a new towing policy to address this and promote a more organized parking environment.

Beginning on Monday, October 30, any vehicle that incurs further violations after receiving their third parking notice will be subject to towing due to the following infractions - parking without a valid permit, students parking in the Staff Lot, and/or vehicles parked in the Carpool area.

Open communication is crucial, and we want to avoid surprises or inconveniences. Therefore, we will provide clear and consistent notifications to students and parents. We aim not to tow vehicles, but to create a fair and accessible parking system for all.  If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s dean. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a smooth parking experience for all members of our school community.

Homeroom @ Home

Today’s homeroom was Halloween-themed! HPTV was extra spooky and silly. Take a moment to check in with your student about their costume plans for Tuesday to ensure their choice aligns with our GIANT values.
