We are excited to share that November 28 through December 2 is our official Highland Park High School Fine Arts Week.  Students are cordially invited to attend performances from Dance, Music, Theater and exhibits from Visual Arts throughout the entire week (more information will be shared with students soon).  The week will culminate with a special Fine Arts assembly (see Happening Next Week for more details)

The HPHS Library is open for business! Yesterday the doors opened to this newly renovated space at 7:30am with coffee, pastries, and a blue ribbon cutting ceremony. Throughout the day students and staff visited the Library to see study rooms, find a comfy study spot, pop in to the TLC, check out the Media Center or spin the prize wheel. Many thanks to our fantastic Library staff for helping to make this fabulous new learning space a reality. If you want to know more about the Library, click here.

Many thanks to the PTO for their generosity. This month they funded 16 grant requests totaling $10,500. Their support provides unique and exciting opportunities for HPHS students. A few examples of how the PTO enhances the educational experiences for our students include:

  • Hands-on lab kits demonstrating the Nobel Prize winning concept of CRISPR
  • Cooking lessons allowing students of Chinese to explore Chinese food culture
  • Supplies for Positive Behavior Interventions & Support for the Alternative Education Community

Membership registration is still open - click here to join and help fund additional grants!

We are excited to share that Mrs. Jessica Reyes, Park District of Highland Park, invited the HPHS De padre a Estudiante group to participate in the first annual event to celebrate the Mexicanago tradition of El Dia de Los Muertos. The event took place in West Ridge, last Saturday, November 5, from 1-4 pm with music, family games, face painting, delicious food, and much more. More than 100 people attended and we were proud to be a part of this inaugural event!  Click on this Chicago Tribune Article to learn more!

ATHLETICS

Big congrats to our Girls Swim and Dive Program.  The team brought home medals in four events at the IHSA State Finals this past weekend and finished in 12th place overall.  Congrats to Kayla Newman (3rd in the 200 Free and 6th in the 500 Free) and Sydney Lewis (7th in the 100 Butterfly).  Kayla set the school record in the 500 during prelims and Sydney set the school record in the fly in finals.  Finally, our 4x50 Free Relay brought home an 8th place medal.  That group included Sydney Lewis, Angelina Eliacin, Marisa Miller, Kayla Newman and alternate Adriana Mendoza.

Our Varsity Girls Basketball Team picked up their first “W” of the season on Tuesday against Wheeling High School at the Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament.  We are excited about the energy and enthusiasm this group has displayed to start the season.

The 2022 Fall season has come to an end.  Our athletes lived our motto of Dream-Believe-Achieve.  Fall programs brought home conference championships in Boys Golf, Boys Cross Country and Girls Swimming and Diving.  Our teams won with class and showed dignity in defeat.  Look for information next week about CSL All Conference selections, Sportsmanship Award winners and State qualifiers.  It’s a great day to be a Giant wherever you are.
