Let me start by wishing everyone a relaxing and rejuvenating Spring Break. Friday 3/18 represents the end of our Charity Drive campaign, the end of the third quarter and the beginning of our last quarter of the 2021-2022 school year. I find it hard to believe we are in the homestretch, but there is no doubt spring is in the air. Spring athletic competitions are underway, plans for culminating events are being made and temperatures appear to be on the rise.
I hope that when we return to school on March 28, we will have recharged our batteries and will be ready to wrap up the year successfully. It is never too late to reach out for help from a teacher, counselor or sponsor. Take a look at Schoology with your student and make a plan for finishing the year strong. Our Giant staff is here to support our students right up until the last day of school.
As you may be aware, March is International Women’s History month. In celebration, our Girl Up team presented a symposium featuring four outstanding women who shared their professional paths in various industries including Technology, Financial Services, Law and the Armed Forces. Not only was I incredibly impressed by the panelists but also the students in the audience and their insightful questions. Please visit the Activities Blog to read all about this exceptional event.

Finally, I want to thank the students, staff and entire community for coming together to support Charity Drive and the Danny Did Foundation. It was a month full of generosity, concern for others and school spirit. I made sure to experience as much as I could these past few weeks and have to say I had a lot of fun. Take a look at my photos!

ACADEMICS- Upcoming Required Standardized Testing
Starting the week of March 28, junior students in a Biology class will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment. This assessment is required for all juniors in the state of Illinois. Students will take the assessment in Biology over the course of three periods during the week and will not miss other classes. Juniors not in a Biology class will take it at a later time in an alternate setting. Please refer to the email sent the week of 3/14/22 by Dan Kleinschrodt, the Department Chair of Science, for more specific information.
PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT testing will occur on Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14. All freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be required to test. This specific SAT administration is a graduation requirement for all juniors in Illinois, which is established by the Illinois State Board of Education. A weekend SAT will not satisfy the graduation requirement. Seniors will not be required to attend school on April 13 or April 14.
No classes will meet on April 13 or April 14. Most students will finish their assessment on Thursday, April 13 and be dismissed after the test. Some students, based on their accommodations, will be required to start testing on April 13 and finish on April 14. All students and families will receive a testing specific letter after spring break. Students who test with accommodations will also receive an individualized letter that explains their testing location and accommodations. Information will also be shared with students in their Homeroom.
