Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

Dear Giant Families,

Thank you again for your incredible support during FOCUS! We also want to acknowledge the successful administration of the ACT and Pre-ACT yesterday – a significant step for our students! As we move into these crucial final weeks of the high school year, consistent attendance is more critical than ever for their academic success and future readiness.

Every day in high school builds upon previous learning, preparing students for college, careers, and beyond. Missing even one day can disrupt their understanding of complex concepts, impact participation in crucial discussions, and hinder their progress on projects and assessments. We also have enriching experiences planned, including important classroom learning, the meaningful Genocide Commemoration Day next week, and tomorrow's energizing pep assembly.

Here's how we can partner to prioritize your high schooler's consistent attendance and on-time arrival:

  • Highlight the Long-Term Value: Discuss with your student how consistent attendance directly impacts their grades, college applications, career readiness, and future opportunities. Emphasize that every lesson and activity contributes to their overall knowledge and skill development.
  • Collaborate on Time Management: Work with your teen to establish realistic morning routines that allow for sufficient sleep and preparation, minimizing tardiness. This might involve setting (sometimes multiple!) alarms, packing bags the night before, and planning for transportation.
  • Open Communication about Challenges: Encourage your student to communicate any challenges they face that might impact their attendance. Please also reach out to their teachers or counselor if you are aware of any issues, such as academic struggles, social-emotional concerns, or transportation difficulties.
  • Connect Attendance to Extracurriculars and Interests: If your student is involved in sports, clubs, or other activities, remind them that academic eligibility often depends on good attendance. Being present in class ensures they can fully participate in what they enjoy.

By working together, we can ensure all our Giant high school students maximize their learning, stay on track for their goals, and benefit from all the academic and extracurricular opportunities available to them.

Thank you for sharing your students with us today and beyond,

Holly

ATHLETICS

Registration was scheduled to open for our HPHS Athletic Summer Camps on April 8th; However, it had to be delayed. The reason for this is that our registration platform, RSchool, was recently bought out by another company called Arbiter. Because of this additional time will be needed to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible for families. Look for communication from our office once camp registration can begin. Our full list of summer camps can be found here. Thank you!
