News from the principal

At its April meeting earlier this week, the Elementary Education Committee voted to follow guidance from the CDC and IDPH/ISBE and allow student desks to be closer than 6 feet next school year. The recent change by the CDC lowered the minimum distance to 3 feet while masks are on. We will need to make alternative plans for indoor lunch. This change should allow most classes to return to their normal classrooms next year.

The EEC also voted to remove the family option for remote learning in the 2021-2022 school year.

If you have questions regarding either of these decisions, please reach out to me.

How will you help make Graceful Evening a success?
Proceeds from Graceful Evening directly benefit the students and families of Grace School. The money raised at Graceful Evening plays an important role in the school's operating budget and pays for educational extras — like the ergonomic and inclusive furniture in this year's Fund-A-Need.

There are many, many ways for your family to be a part of Graceful Evening 2021. Come to a couple events, donate an auction item, donate a bottle of wine or whisky — help support the great education students receive at Grace Lutheran School!

Visit the Graceful Evening website to purchase tickets and learn more about virtual and in-person events, preview the auction items and donate to the Fund-A-Need.

Golf Outing ($200)
Golf for Grace School! Tee off at 9am on Monday, May 3, play 18 holes with a cart rental, and then enjoy lunch and a drink at the Riverside Country Club. Invite a friend, or a foursome. It's a great opportunity to get some outdoor exercise and support a great cause — Grace Lutheran School.

Trivia Night ($45. Ticket sales close tonight)
Sign up today to come to the Graceful Evening Trivia Night, hosted in the Grace gym on Tuesday, April 27. Your ticket price ($45) includes dinner from Hecho En Oak Park, plus beer, margaritas and non-alcoholic beverages. You don't need to sign up with a team to compete in the trivia contest -- compete as a couple or own our own. All the Graceful Evening Silent Auction items will be on display in the gym that night. Come take a look so you can plan your bidding strategy!

Paint the Grace Tower ($35)
Anyone can create a beautiful painting with step-by-step instructions from Creativita in Forest Park. All you have to do is pick up your supplies at Grace on April 30 and hop on the Zoom on Sunday, May 2. You'll make a 12x18 painting of the Grace Tower soaring into the blue sky.
Donate to the Silent Auction
We're in need of auction items to support our school fundraising at this year's Ten Graceful Evenings —museum passes, a gift card to your favorite shop or restaurant, maybe an experience or class you'd like to offer, handmade artwork, sports tickets ... We'd love to hear your ideas! Email us at gracefulevening@graceriverforest.org.

Wine and whiskey pull donations
We're also accepting donations of bottles of wine or whiskey valued at $30 or more. These can be left at the front desk at Grace, marked for Graceful Evening. Or bring your donation to any Graceful Evening event.

From the RFPD- Join us for a live Zoom conference on April 28 from 6-7:30pm for our Quarterly Community Safety Meeting. More information and a link to the meeting can be found here.

Parents of 6th-8th graders: We ask that during morning drop-off you pull forward to the main entrance to drop-off your student. Stopping in front of the church doors creates a back-up onto Division Street, and we have narrowly avoided a couple accidents recently. Having the students walk a few extra steps is good for them and worth it for the safety of everyone.
