Blessing: a favor or gift bestowed by God,
thereby bringing happiness
In just one week, families in the United States will gather together to celebrate Thanksgiving. Though the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in October of 1621, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a federal holiday in 1863, during the American Civil War. Lincoln saw the importance of acknowledging Thanksgiving as "Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens," to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November. Today we still come together go gather as families and give thanks to our blessings. I feel very blessed to have joined the SCSS community this year. You have welcomed me into the school family, and for that I am grateful. I hope that we can continue to grow together as a community and continue to count our blessings together year after year.
