Mustang Messenger l November 8, 2018
Message from the Principal

In Mass this week, Father Charlie did a wonderful job of teaching the children about stewardship. We are all called to place God first in all things. An envelope is being sent home with each of the students to be brought back next Wednesday, November 14th, at our school Mass. This is a one-time school Mass collection as we are learning about how to be good stewards of all that God has given to us. Additionally, below are some ways to get involved through service or outreach in the coming weeks. Please prayerfully consider supporting one or more these special opportunities as a family. Click on the Mass reflection to hear more about Father Charlie’s lesson to us in Mass and ask your child about the three jars he showed us!

Box of Joy
Box of Joy is an annual Christmas gift ministry facilitated by Cross Catholic Outreach. Through this Box of Joy program and sponsoring the cost of its shipment ($9), you can deliver a Box of Joy to a child overseas, who would otherwise go without at Christmas. Please watch this short video to see the joy and hope these simple boxes bring to the children. Click here for directions on how to pack the box. If interested in participating in this special outreach project, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Filled boxes should be brought back to school on November 15th (pick up will be on November 16th).
Soles4Souls
Starting next week, the Eco-Club will be holding a used shoe drive for an organization called Soles4Souls. This nonprofit organization takes gently used (or new) shoes and sells them to organizations in third world countries, where the shoes provide a means for earning income. The sale of 1 pair of shoes can provide 5 meals to a family in Haiti; 20 pairs of shoes can provide a year’s worth of shelter and 30 pairs of shoes can provide a year’s worth of schooling for a child in Honduras.

This also keeps shoes out of the landfill, when another “life” for them can be found elsewhere. All shoe donations will be collected in the breezeway, November 12th - November 20th. If you have any questions, please email the Eco Club at myuska@projectgivingkids.org. Thank you for considering this gift of hope and care.

Sixth Grade Bible Service
Our annual Bible Prayer Service celebration took place on Wednesday, November 7th. Fr. Michael Burke presided over the service, blessed the Bibles, and distributed them to each of our sixth grade students. During the month of November, when we reflect upon all we are grateful for, we thank God for the wonderful opportunity of learning about God's Word at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School.

Third Grade News
3P has been exploring all types of animals, reading books and gathering information on the internet. Recently, they learned how animals survive in the colder months. We know some animals hibernate and some animals move to warmer climates. The Monarch butterfly has the longest migration pattern, with some traveling almost 4,000 miles. All of us can help Monarch butterflies by providing backyard habitats for them and planting milkweed plants.
