Good Evening Fullerton Families,

I have just finished watching our Spring Musical "Bright Star". It was so nice to see our students back on the auditorium stage after a long hiatus. Our seniors especially have waited since their freshman year to get back on that stage and it happened tonight! Some of us shed happy tears! That stage means so much to our school community and we're very happy that it is open for us to enjoy once again! Please make sure you buy your tickets for the show at www.fuhs.booktix.com.

Make sure to scroll through and find athletic updates, summer camp information, dance auditions, Information on Athletic Physicals Day, and much more!

Enjoy your weekend Tribe!

Activities

Army JROTC

Last Week, 18 JROTC kids went to their annual, 4-day camp at the Irvine Park Outdoor Education Center, run by the Boy Scouts, for leadership and adventure training. Some of the events they participated in were rappelling, hiking, zip-lining, swimming, archery, high roping, marksmanship, rock wall climbing, team building, and leadership situational training. Cadets started their daily activities with a 6 am wake up call for an hour of physical fitness. Cadets were placed under tremendous challenges, both physically and mentally. They had a lot of fun while doing so, they even had a Karaoke competition and a dance on their last evening. Cadets were asked what the best part about the camp was, and the majority said that the 3 army meals were the best.

Visit from Ladera Vista Jr. High

We welcomed Ladera Vista's Culinary classes today! Thank you Mrs. Montoya for visiting and allowing us to show her students a little bit of our program here at FUHS! We can't wait until these great students join us and become part of the Tribe!

Softball

Softball continues to roll with an overall record of 18-3, 4-2 in league play. The Tribe is ranked #23 in the current Orange County top 25 polls and ranked #2 in the current CIF Division 4 poll. On Tuesday the team finished up the first round of league play with a home victory over cross-town rival Troy 3-2, to finish the first half of league in second place at 4-1. Thursday undefeated Sunny Hills came to Fullerton with a showdown for the top spot in league. The Tribe fell behind in the top of the 1st inning 2-0 on two unearned runs. Fullerton was down 3-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning and scored 2 runs and had the bases loaded with only 1 out. Fullerton was unable to score the tying run and lost 3-2. We are so proud of the way the girls battled and competed. Five Freshmen started for the Tribe against Sunny Hills. Next week we have two tough games @ Sonora on Tuesday and @ home on Thursday against La Habra. Come out and support. Roll Tribe!

Baseball

TRIBE Baseball split this week’s game with La Habra to take control of the Freeway League in the standings with only four more games in the regular season. On Wednesday La Habra took the first win with a balk call by the umpire with a 0-0 time in the bottom of the seventh. This gave La Habra a 1-0 win. This loss didn’t deter our boys from practicing focused and getting ready for the next game. Game two took place on Friday on the beautiful campus of Fullerton Union High School and the newly remodeled baseball stadium. It was a tight game from beginning to end, but in the top of the 7th with a 0-0 score and a runner on third, FUHS got the third out and it was on to the story-ending finish. With sophomore Miguel Velazquez on third, sophomore Zachary Fany gets the big RBI and brings in Miguel for the score! Cue the music and serve the cake because it's party time. TRIBE wins 1-0 and takes control of the Freeway League. Still four more games to play in the next two weeks against Buena Park and Troy. The boys aren’t taking anyone lightly, so it’s back to practice on Monday to focus and prepare. GO TRIBE! @1893_FUHSSPORTS

Boys Volleyball

The boys had a great week. Started with a solid performance on Saturday at the Kennedy tournament, going 2-1 in pool play and 2-2 overall, including a sweeping win over the number 1 seed, San Juan Hills. The only pool play loss came against Kennedy, 23-25, 25-18, 12-15. In the playoffs, we lost another close one to North Torrance in similar fashion, 25-22, 24-26, 12-15. On Tuesday, we went to Sonora and swept them 3-0, turned around and swept La Habra as well, 3-0 on Thursday to seal the deal, guaranteeing at least a 3rd place finish in league and a spot in CIF playoffs. Rowan Yeo continues to lead our defense along with help from Jack Castellanos and Price Sanders. Hyunmin Kim directs the offense, leading the team in assists, with some help from Joshua Lee. The dynamic duo, JJ brothers, Johnny Leonardo and Jorge Vasquez lead the team in kills, while Emmett Young and Nathan Medina control the net by shutting down the opponents. On the right side Dominic Valenzuela and Ethan Du continue to improve every day. This is the first time the boys have made the playoffs since the program started 4 years ago. The varsity is now sitting at 5-3 (Freeway League), and 15-7 (overall). We still have 1 more home game on Monday against Buena Park where we will honor our seniors for their contribution to our program before heading into the playoffs. Our JV are also doing well, sitting at 5-3 in league. Go Tribe.

Swim and Dive

This week Fullerton Swim faced off against Buena Park High School. Everyone brought their A-game and we swept them on every level! The Girls' medley relay qualified for CIF and Madilyn Ekstrom made a qualifying time in the 500 freestyle. On Friday Abigail Eskstrom dove at the Mt Sac diving Invitational where she took first place!

Track and Field

The boys and girls finished up the regular season league meets and will now compete at the Orange County Championships and Freeway League Prelims. The girls varsity team finished with a 3-2 team record by defeating Buena Park this past Tuesday but suffered a narrow defeat (62-62 points) by Sonora. The boys varsity team finished with a 2-3 league record as they defeated Buena Park as well but lost to Sonora by 5 points. Boys frosh-soph finished with a 3-1-1 record while frosh-soph girls finished 4-1, only losing to Troy.

The girls were led by junior Morgan McAndrew, senior Layla Thornton, and sophomore Alexa Lopez. Morgan competed in 4 events for the team (1600m, 800, 3200m, and 4x400), scoring in all of them. Layla continued her dominance over the league with a huge lifetime best in the discus (98’6”) and shot put. Alexa competed in her first official Fullerton meet since being cleared by CIF which allowed her to score in the 400m, 300 hurdles, and run a leg on both the 4x100 and winning 4x400 team. Other key scorers for Fullerton were Haley Won (100 hurdles, high jump, triple jump, long jump), Amaya Moreno (400m), Janelle Flores (400m, 300 hurdles), freshman Melina Sibal (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400m), freshman Sofia Tabbal (800m), Makayla Felesmino (Triple Jump, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Ava Vasquez (200m), Ciara Campos (high jump, 4x100), Martiyanna Stiger (shot put, discus), and Leah Nunez (shot put, discus). The girls head into league prelims with potential in all events and numerous girls primed to qualify for CIF Prelims on May 6th. On Saturday, April 15th, a portion of them will compete at the Orange County Championships. Layla Thonrton is currently ranked 3rd for the shot put and top 10 in CIF division 2.

The boys varsity team was led by senior Dorian Yepez, sophomore Jack Golla, and sophomore Ryan Leitner. Dorian continued his dominance in both hurdles events with new lifetime bests while also running a leg on the 4x400 and qualifying for league prelims in the long jump. Jack narrowly ran down the CIF cross country runner up from Sonora in the mile with a new lifetime best of 4:36.14 and set the Fullerton sophomore class record. Ryan Leitner won the 400, scored in the 200, and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 team which broke 3:40 for the first time. Other key scorers include Victor Perez (shot put, discus), Alejandro Hernandez (1600, 3200), Nathan Limon (3200), freshman Dylan Cobbs (110 and 300 hurdles), Christopher Rasmussen (discus), Jaden Pulsifer (discus), Andrew Ayon (110 hurdles, shot put) DJ Cobbs (triple jump, long jump, high jump, 4x100), Dallas Padron (long jump, triple jump), Nicholas Kimoto (long jump, triple jump, high jump), David Williams (long jump, 4x100), Umar Abdul Karim (100m, 200m, 4x100), Daniel Frausto (300 hurdles, 400, 4x400), and Troy Fernandez (400m, 800m). While the boys team record shows a 2-3, it does not give them justice in regards to how close the 3 losses were. The boys lost those three meets by a combined 10 points in what could be the smallest margin of 3 combined losses in decades. Many of the boys are ranked at the top or near the top of their event which will create an interesting league finals meet as they get ready to qualify for CIF. Great job on the regular season to all of our track student-athletes!

Boys Golf

The Varsity Boys team had a tough schedule playing sunny hills and Troy this week. They lost to Troy by 3 strokes 208-205 pushing them to 3rd place in league, their rematch will be very important to secure the second place and make a run into CIf. The JV boys went 1-1 this week losing to Troy and beating Sonora.

Boys Tennis

The boys' varsity tennis had a great week, defeating Sonora HS (18-0) and La Habra HS (18-0). The team also celebrated the 5 seniors on the team, Josh Balarie, Ibrahim Tabbah, Nicholas Vo, Francisco Rincon, and Tensaye Anteneh. We wish them the best.

Stunt Cheer

This year are cheer program competed in their first season of STUNT. There are over 400 high school, junior high, and club teams playing STUNT throughout the country. 2023 is the 13th season of the sport of STUNT. On Monday 4/10, our STUNT team finished out the season at HOME with tough losses against El Modena and Villa Park. Our STUNT team has shown tremendous growth and we are immensely proud of a successful completion of our first season! We will miss our five seniors but we are excited to continue to grow this program with our underclassmen next year!
