CAASPP Scores Go Up!
We are very proud of the work our staff and students are doing! There are many points of pride around their work our CAASPP Scores are definitely one of them. At FUHS alone we improved greatly in all three areas! At FUHS we improved by at least 10% in ELA, 9% in Math, and 7% in Science! We are proud that we are above the statewide average and proud that as a school district, we are also outperforming both the county and state averages! Go Tribe! FJUHSD is the place to be!

Tennis:
Fullerton Girls Varsity Tennis concluded the 2023 season in grand fashion, beating Buena Park 18-0 and landing the team in the 2nd place of the Freeway League. Sunny Hills finished 1st, FUHS 2nd and Troy came in 3rd. FUHS finished the season winning 7 straight matches in the preseason, losing 2 matches in the beginning of league play, and proceeded to win 9 straight league matches, highlighting the defeat of Troy and Sunny Hills in a back to back match! It has been a fantastic season for the team.
#1 singles Abigail Kelly, had a perfect day winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. #2 singles Kate Luengo (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) had a near similar perfect day and #3 singles Hailey Kwok (6-0, 6-4, 6-1) also won with little resistance. This singles core had a good season and will only get better with a year of experience under their belt. Great job, Ladies!
In doubles play, #1 doubles team of Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie ended their regular season in a perfect manner, winning all three sets without dropping a game (6-0, 6-0, 6-0). Ending with a season record of 50-1! #2 doubles team of Bonnie Lynch and Nicole White (6-3, 6-1, 6-0) and #3 doubles team of Amber Elomina and Francine Bondoc (6-0, 6-1, 6-0) also finished off the season strong. This season, the secret to our team's success weighed heavily on our doubles teams.
Although the regular season concluded, there is much more tennis yet to be played. Next week, the focus shifts to the individual play in league finals, hosted by Sunny Hills. The doubles team of Sfatcu/Balarie is expected to be seeded #1 in the doubles draw and Abigail Kelly is expected to be seeded #4 or #5 in the singles draw. Good luck Ladies! Then after the league final is done, the team will then embark on the CIF playoff journey. With the luck of the draw, this team is expected to make it far into the tournament. Go Tribe!

Cross Country:
The boys varsity team competed at the Orange County Championships this past Saturday and placed 2nd in the mediums schools varsity race. All seven varsity runners broke the 17:00 barrier which may be a first in school history. Junior Jack Golla (15:41) led the way with his 3rd place individual finish followed closely by Alejandro Hernandez in 9th place (15:51). Rounding out the top 7 was Ryan Leitner (16:36, 31st), Jude Banda (16:36, 33rd), Nathan Karcher (16:42, 35th), Max Olivares (16:45, 38th), and Anthony Benedetto (16:54, 49th). Their team time of 81:27 is 2nd all time only to the 2022 team. The performance also puts them next to the top 16 teams in CIF division 3 which qualify for the CIF Championships. Up next is the Mt. Sac Invitational on October 20th, Freeway League Finals on November 1st, and the CIF Preliminaries where they would need to place top 4 in their heat to advance to the round of 16.
The girls cross country competed at the Orange County Championships on Saturday, October 14th and came away with their first victory at this competition in school history! The girls dominated the medium schools varsity race and ended up as the 19th fastest team in all of Orange County. Senior Morgan McAndrew led the team with her 4th place individual finish and was followed by senior Reagan Glidewell (7th, 19:14), sophomore Sofia Tabbal (8th, 19:33), sophomore Melina Sibal (15th, 20:12), freshman Ella Casto (17th, 20:12), sophomore Darelys Rizo Roman (32nd, 20:58), and Alexa Lopez (35th, 21:07). The girls team time of 97:49 (19:34 avg/ 3 miles) is also a school record. Their performance also resulted in earning their first CIF ranking as they are now in the 12th position for division 3 schools. Up next is the Mt. Sac Invitational on October 20th, Freeway League Finals on November 1st, and the CIF Preliminaries where they would need to place top 4 in their heat to advance to the round of 16. Nice job, girls!
