Football:

Football has a "bye" week tonight but we are getting ready for the big cross town game vs. Troy High School next week. We will be the visiting team this year! Let's fill up the stands! See you next Friday!

Cheer and Song:

Varsity Cheer and Song traveled to Brea Olinda to cheer on our football team during an exciting game! We had such a fun time rallying behind our team but ultimately the Tribe ended with a loss.

Our program also had our first stunt and tumbling clinic to get ready for the new STUNT season on Wednesday, Sept. 20th. We loved seeing new FUHS faces and are looking forward to tryouts on Oct. 2nd in the gym from 7pm-9pm! Go Tribe!

Tennis:

FUHS had a rough match against Troy High School on Tuesday. Although the team fought hard throughout the contest, the team ultimately fell short losing 8-10. #1 and #2 singles, Abigial Kelly and Kate Luengo scored two points for the team. Abigail showed a lot of heart playing Troy's number one to a standstill but losing a close match, 4-6. But Coach Inthavong knows Abigail will learn from this and work harder than ever and will have a more favorable outcome the next time the team meets Troy again in a couple of weeks.

The doubles teams kept the match close, winning 6 of 9 sets played. #2 doubles team of Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch had a rough start to the day, losing their first match to Troy's #2 (2-6). But after a talk with coach, they rebounded in a very positive manner, winning against Troy's #1 and #3 (6-3, 6-4), they still have a lot of work to do for the rest of the season, but this was a great recovery. The #3 doubles team of Francine Bondoc and Amber Elimino also did well, winning 2 of 3 sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-3). #1 doubles of Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie won 2 of 3 sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-1). This ends their fantastic and amazing run of 77 straight matches won. Christina and Rebecca were visibly upset from the loss, but Coach Akhom expressed his pride and was very thankful for having the opportunity to coach them and to be a part of their journey. 77 wins in a row in any sport is amazing and Christina and Rebecca should embrace that and be proud of themselves. Now, they have a new goal they are going to be setting, to set a record of 100 wins and 1 loss in the last two years, and they can do it, they are more motivated than ever!

FUHS Girls Varsity Tennis faced Sunny Hills Thursday. It was a close contest but Fullerton came up short, losing 7-11. Sunny Hills has two powerhouse players that placed Fullerton in a hole from the get-go, beating up our singles lineup 6 sets (all 6-0). But Abigail Kelly, Kate Luengo and Hailey Kwok stepped up and managed to all beat Sunny's #3 singles (6-0, 6-2, 6-3), giving the team 3 points and a chance for the doubles to have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be as Fullerton's doubles teams under-performed, winning only 4 of 9 sets played. The only shining spot of the day is the return of the winning ways from #1 doubles team, Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie, playing with more focus than ever after their winning streak snapped last Tuesday against Troy. They came out with a no nonsense attitude and promptly dispatched all three teams they faced (6-1, 6-1, 6-0).

This was a rough week for the team losing two close matches against the league's powerhouse, Troy 8-10 and Sunny Hills 7-11, and the team is taking it to heart. But we will continue to work hard and will have another shot at these two teams in a couple of weeks.

Girls Golf:

Great week for the girls golf team going 1-1. Beating Sonora and barley losing to la habra.  Emily Kim was the Medalist on Tuesday having the best score out of both teams

Girls Volleyball:

The girls had a rough week with losses to Sonora and La Habra. At Sonora, the girls lost the first 2 sets in a very closely contested match, losing 22-25, 26-28. Unfortunately, in the closing moment of the 2nd set, we had a few calls that didn’t go our way that changed the momentum of the game, and just couldn’t recover from that in the 3rd set. La Habra came in as one of the big favors with their League MVP from last year who proved why she was the recipient last year. We tried to employed different blocking combinations blocking her, and changed tempo by letting our super sophomore setter Cora Sailhamer direct a 5-1 offense for the very first time to change tempo. We gained a small momentum, but in the end, the deficit was just too much for the girls to overcome. The girls will continue to fight and prepare for Buena Park and Troy, both at home next week. Both JV and Soph went 1-1 for the week with dominating wins against La Habra by both teams.

Boys Water Polo:

We started off last weekend with the chino hills varsity tournament. We beat some high division teams taking 7th in the tournament with over 40 teams. The wednesday varsity league game against Troy was a tough loss of 14-8. Our Boys fought hard and kept the game within two point until halfway into the third quarter but Troy pulled away for the victory. Justin Pearson, Joshua Reed and Owen Coloumbe scored 2 goals each. Josiah Jessup had 7 blocks in the goal.

The Jv and Frosh-Soph played Troy last Monday. Jv lost 13-14 and Frosh-soph won 10-9. In the Chino hills frosh-soph Tournament our boys took first place!
