Cross Country Season

The boys & girls cross country teams capped off the regular season with both teams qualifying for CIF. The girls team shocked the league by jumping from 4th place to a three way tie for 2nd place in the final league standings. The girls finished 4th in the first two league meets and needed to finish 3rd at league finals for a shot to make CIF. The girls exceeded expectations and only finished 11 points behind Troy High School to force the tie for 2nd place in league standings. This is the first time the girls have qualified as a team for CIF since 2015. Their team time of 101:26 (20:17 avg/3 mile race) is also 2nd in school history.

Junior Morgan McAndrew led the girls with her 2nd place individual finish (18:34), while the junior duo of Ansal Esquivias (10th, 20:00.1) and Reagan Glidewell (11th, 20:00.2) dropped their lifetime bests by 26 seconds and 43 seconds. Freshman Sofia Tabbal (17th, 20:54) ran the race of her life while smiling for most of it and dropped over 2 minutes from her previous lifetime best. Joining her was fellow freshman Melina Sibal (25th, 21:56), also a lifetime best by 1 minute. Freshman Miley Basas (32nd, 23:16) and junior Isabella Arredondo (40th) rounded out the 7 girls who competed on the varsity team. All 7 girls including the top lower level runners return for the 2023 season!

The boys team came into the Freeway League Finals in 2nd place as a team with Sonora already guaranteed a share of the league title for winning the first two league meets. That did not stop the boys from setting a fast early pace and putting five runners in the top 11 to earn a share of the league title for the first time since 1965! The boys ended the 57-year league title drought in dominant fashion by placing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, and 11th for their 5 scorers. The boys also logged an impressive 23 second spread for their 1st scorer to their 5th scorer.  Their point total of 29 points and team time of 81:10 (16:14 avg/3 mile) are both school records! Additionally, this is the first time the boys team has qualified for CIF since 2013.

Senior Nathan Limon (2nd, 16:04), junior Alejandro Hernandez (3rd, 16:07), senior Troy Fernandez (4th, 16:08), sophomore Jack Golla (9th, 16:22), sophomore Ryan Leitner (11th, 16:27), senior Daniel Frausto (29th, 17:42), and junior Nathan Karcher (30th, 18:12) toed the line for Fullerton and will be heading to Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, November 12th for the Division 3 CIF Preliminaries. The boys and girls will compete in 1 of 3 heats at the CIF Prelims with the top 5 teams in each heat moving on to the CIF Championships on Saturday, November 19th. More history can be made as Fullerton has never had a boys or girls team qualify for the CIF Championships! On another note, the boys frosh-soph and junior varsity won the freeway league title to give the boys a sweep of all 3 levels! The future is bright for both girls and boys!

Girls Tennis

On Tuesday, the Fullerton Girls Tennis took on Flintridge Academy in CIF Wildcard Playoff. It was a tough outing because the team was missing their number one, who was on a college tour, but the girls fought hard and made it a close contest, losing 7-11. This concludes the girls' team season. However, we still have a team in CIF Doubles playoff! Senior Lillian Kelly and Sophomore Abigail Kelly are still getting ready for more playoff runs!! It was a successful season for all.

Boys Water Polo

Boys frosh/soph had the inland empire tournament where they took third place out of 32 teams

Our Boys Varsity started CIF Division 3 Playoffs Tuesday beating Marina High School 13-10 only to fall Thursday to Damien High School. The boys had another great season! They will be taking a well-deserved rest next week as we start up girls' preseason with their hard week.

Football

Fullerton football lost to Troy last week. In a must win scenario, Fullerton was reduced to having their luck come down to a coin toss. At the End of the season the records for Sunny Hills, Sonora , and Fullerton all ended with a 3 way tie at 2-3. Sonora beat Sunny in the final minutes of the game. Having lost to Sunny going for two points and beating Sonora put us in a position to flip for third place. In CIF only the top three can represent their league in a 6 team league. We unfortunately were flipped out of playoff contention . We then put in a bid for an at -large berth but because we were under .500. Sonora at 5th place but 6-4 record was able to qualify for the at large. It was an unfortunate situation. The young men put a ton of effort into their season, but not invain. They were able to set the standard and have a ton of starters returning next year. Our off-season has begun and look forward to improving next year. Thank you for all your support.

Winter Season is here!

Basketball - Tribe Madness

Boys basketball started official winter season practice this week and concluded the week with their tribe madness event. The event consisted of a free BBQ sponsored by All Pro Builders followed by team introductions, contests, and red and white scrimmages. Thank you to our boosters and all of the parents who made the event possible for our student athletes. They have their scrimmage next week against Los Alamitos followed by their first game on Monday 11/14.

Girl’s Basketball started off the winter season with practice all week, including Tribe Madness Thursday, which celebrates the beginning of the season. We had a BBQ to start off the night, with team introductions for all levels of both boys and girls basketball that also included our hype video. The night concluded with a JV vs. Varsity scrimmage. We have our last fall league game this Saturday at Oxford Academy before have our first official game of the season on Monday 11/14

Wrestling

Wrestling kicked off their official season practices this week for the Winter season. New athletes have joined the wrestling program from fall sports, such as Cross Country, Football and Water Polo. This week there was a parent meeting to introduce coaches, go over team expectations, fundraisers, and the schedule for the season. Wrestling kicks off their season with JV Boys traveling to Cerritos HS on 11/15, Varsity Boys at S. Torrance HS on 11/19, and JV and Varsity Girls going to Capo Valley HS on 11/19.

Girls Soccer

Girl’s Soccer completed a very competitive tryout and selected players committed to make this year’s teams focused and ready to WIN. All the necessary preseason items are in place to start training. All levels are excited and looking forward with a positive attitude to making this year competitive and fun.

Boys Soccer

Boy’s Soccer finally started preparing for the season and the Defense of the League Championship. Tryouts have been held, players selected and uniforms ordered. Now training starts and excitement builds for the start of the season. All levels are ready to go.
