Science Fun at UCI
🔬 Exciting Days at UCI's Evolutionary Genomics Lab! 🧬 Monday and Wednesday, our AP Bio students had the incredible opportunity to conduct gel electrophoresis and PCR experiments thanks to Dr. Ranz. This lab experience was made possible by a former student working in Ranz's lab, where our students contributed to research on a specific gene in fruit flies. Check out these snapshots from our hands-on learning session! 🌟 Thank you Mrs. Cruz for making this happen for our students! Such a valuable experience!

AVID Chapman College Visit
Fullerton Union High School's AVID program took a memorable field trip to Chapman University. The students delved into university life by studying in the library, dining at a student hall, sitting in classrooms, and exploring campus facilities. This experience not only expanded their perspectives but also provided valuable insights into life at a private university. It was a day filled with learning and inspiration for these college-bound AVID students.

Science Teachers in the Wild!
Our teachers are truly remarkable! They are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly dedicated, often going above and beyond to stay informed about current trends in education and their specific fields. This past weekend, four of our science teachers—Mrs. Cruz, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Rojas, and Ms. Wilhelmi—attended a valuable training at the Steele/Burland Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center in San Diego at the Anza Borrego Teacher Symposium! They are equipping themselves with new knowledge to enrich our classroom experiences. We deeply appreciate their commitment to our students and school community! Thank you for all that you do!

Stunt:
Busy week for our STUNT team! We had our first away league games on Monday 4/15 against Brea Olinda and San Clemente. We were able to put 14 routines on the mat out of 18! The team even scored a point for tumbling routine 4, a routine that consists of backhandsprings, standing back tucks, and jumps! This is a huge improvement for this program and we are so proud of these girls. We have our last two away games for league on Friday at Orange Lutheran High School and would love to have some support by seeing red in the stands! Our game times are 6pm and 7pm.

Softball
Tribal Softball is on fire! They continued their winning streak this past week with victories over Brea Olinda and Sunny Hills.
Last Saturday, the Indians soared to an impressive 8-1 win against the Brea Olinda Wildcats. Senior pitcher Tianna Salcido, a committed player to Tennessee State, had a stellar performance. On the mound, she struck out an impressive six batters while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk!). Salcido's consistency has been a major asset for the team, having not allowed more than two walks in seven straight pitching appearances. At the plate, Salcido continued her success, scoring a run and reaching base three times out of four at-bats.
Freshman Katelynn Mathews also impressed in the pitching circle, pitching four innings and allowing just one earned run off two hits. The offensive attack was led by sophomore Melia Vera, who scored twice and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sophomore Hayley Brock also played a key role, scoring two runs, stealing a base, and going 2-for-4.
The winning momentum continued on Wednesday as the Tri
be defeated the Sunny Hills Lancers by a score of 8-5. This victory marked their sixth consecutive win. Senior Maiah Rodriguez, committed to Orange Coast College, was phenomenal, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Brock remained a force at the plate, hitting a home run, scoring two runs, and going 2-for 4.
This latest win brings Fullerton's record to an impressive 18-7, with a perfect undefeated record in league play. They average an impressive 6.2 runs per game, showcasing their offensive firepower.
The Tribe's next game is a special one – Senior Day! They'll be playing against Sonora at home on Friday at 3:30 pm. Don't miss your chance to cheer on our fantastic softball team as they continue their winning season! Go Tribe!

Boys Volleyball
Congratulations on the boys for a great and exciting season. The boys finished off the regular season with a 1-1 week. On Monday at La Habra, when we were up 2-1 sets, one of our most reliable weapons on both ends of the court, Dominic Valenzuela, went down with an injury. The boys lost the very next set, but were able to come back and dominated La Habra by a score of 15-4 in the final set. On Wednesday, Dominic’s presence on both ends of the court, was felt, and we ended up losing to Buena Park in another 5 setter. The boys ended up with an 8-2 league record, and sole possession of 2nd place. Next game will be Friday night against Garden Grove here at home before the playoffs begin next week. The brackets will be released on Sunday.

Track and Field
A small portion of the team competed at the prestigious Orange County Championships last Saturday, finishing up most of the meet before the rain settled in. Many freshman and sophomore athletes who normally compete at the varsity level during the season drop down as the competition is that tough. Leading the charge was freshman Mahlia Jordan with her runner-up finish in the discus. Mahlia cracked the 100 foot mark for the first time in her life and currently ranks as a top 12 freshman in the STATE! She also came back later in the day to place 13th overall in the shot put. Sophomore Melina Sibal also had a pair of top 10 finishes in the 100m and 200m. Ally Lopez finished 14th overall in the 400m, Reagan Glidewell set a new lifetime best in the 1600m, and Azumi Fuertes was 13th in the 3200m at the frosh-soph level. Other Fullerton competitors included Makayla Felismino (100m hurdles), Matia Ornleas (100m hurdles), Madison Sibal (100m), Brooke Tanner (1600m, 800m), Ollie Wilder (800m), Janelle Flores (300m hurdles), Ciara Campos (200m), Amelia Sebourn (400m), Molly Kim (4x100), Amaya Moreno (800m), Makenna Francisco (4x100, 100 hurdles), Josie Lee (Triple Jump, 100 hurdles), and Isabella Amacio (discus).
The boys also had some standout performers at the county championships with Heikki Kohlenberger running under 54 seconds for the 400m again and Alejandro Hernandez clocking his 2nd sub 9:50 3200m. Also competing for the team was twin brothers Brody and Michael McMackin (400m, 4x100), Anthony Benedetto (110HH, 300H), Dylan Cobbs (110HH, Triple Jump, 300H), Yousef Awad (800, 4x100), Jack Golla (1600m, 800m), DJ Cobbs (Triple Jump, High Jump), Gavin Ledbetter (4x100), Shaun Marshall (4x100), Henry Burns (800m), Nathan Karcher (800m), Bo Sanderson (1600m, 3200m), and Collin Yung (Discus).
At the Fullerton Distance Carnival, freshman Keely Gallagher finished second in the Frosh-Soph 3200, and in the 400 Brianna Gaytan took second while Ruby Allan placed third. Azumi Fuertes ran an incredible 1600 with a time of 5:39.21 placing first in girl’s Frosh-Soph. In the Frosh-Soph Shot put Isabella Amacio placed first followed by Melodee Gallardo who placed third. Olivia Yturriaga placed second in the girl’s varsity shot put with Sabrina Vareles following close behind. Isabella Amacrio also placed first in frosh-soph Discus, and Janessa Gallardo placed second in varsity with a mark of 66’7”. On the boys side, Nathan Karcher and Adam Zibell battled the worst of the rain in the 1600m as all fans decided to take cover. Marcos Lerma battled a strong Bloomington team to finish 2nd in the shot put and 5th in discus. The team is currently prepapring for the Freeway League Finals next Wednesday which will be the conclusion for most of the team except those that qualify for CIF. Both varsity teams are 4-1 and both frosh-soph teams are 5-0!
