Football:
Football started their season with their first game away against San Dimas High School, last Friday night. Although they were able to hold the Saints from putting any points on the board during the second half, the game ended in a loss of 12-14. Key players for the night were Ryan Reger, Ben Chacon, Micah Welsh, and Adrian Silva, who were all named Players of the Week. Football looks forward to their first home game, and a WIN, this Friday night against Whittier HS.

Cheer and Song:
Varsity Cheer and Song cheered on our boys at their first away game AND game of the season against San Dimas! We can not wait to be on our home field this week and show off all our skills we have been practicing over the summer and at camp!
The entire program participated in our annual Cheer and Song clinic with athletes ages 3-13! Our team had a blast teaching the kids and playing fun dance games and are ready to perform at halftime on Friday, August 25th!

Cross Country:
The cross-country team is off to a great start to the school year. The team hosted a friendly scrimmage against Santa Fe High School and Cerritos High School this past Saturday morning on August 19th which ended in Fullerton finishing with a large lead over both schools. Senior Morgan McAndrew took first place overall with a time of 19:04. She was closely followed by sophomore runner, sophomore Sofia Tabbal, who came in with a time of 19:54, breaking her personal best record. The next scoring runners were senior Reagan Glidewell (20:07), freshman Azumi Fuertes (20:44), and junior Alexa Lopez (21:23). The entire team mostly had finishing times under 25 minutes, and their hard work paid off. Fullerton won the race with a score of 25 with Cerritos High School coming in second with a score of 54, and followed by Santa Fe High School with a score of 62.
The boys' team did equally well and dominated the race. Senior Alejandro Hernandez took first place overall with a time of 15:31 and a solid 25-second lead over the second-place runner. Tennis:
Fullerton Union High School Girls Varsity and Jr. Varsity Tennis started the 2023 campaign with a strong win against La Quinta High School. Both teams won by the score of 14-4. Varsity was led by Abigail Kelly. Abigail won all three of her matches comfortably (6-3, 6-0, 6-0). Kate Luengo and newcomer Hailey Kwok won 2 of 3 sets played. The double team of Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie continued their regular season winning streak from last season, winning today in dominating fashion (6-0, 6-0, 6-0). The other doubles teams, #2 doubles Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch, and #3 doubles Francine Bondoc and Amber Elomina both won 2 of 3 sets played. Great start Varsity!
Equally as impressive are the junior varsity girls. Matching the Varsity with identical scores, winning 14-4. Outstanding showing by the singles, Audrey Shu, Daniela Perez, and Freshman Ella Kim, won all nine sets played. The doubles team of Shanelle Thompson and Elysee Hua won all three sets played, despite just picking up the sport of tennis just 2 months ago! A notable mention is the doubles team of Sophia Santos/Brenna Williamson, Janelle Rodriguez/Ellen Munoz, and Alyson Hensley/Ava Torresluna. This is a great start for all our girls!!!! Next up, the girls face Western High School next Tuesday (Varsity at home) and Pacifica High School on Thursday (Varsity away). Let's Go, Tribes!!!!

Girls Volleyball:
It’s been a challenging week for our girls. With 5 key players, 4 of them being in the starting rotation, out this week with illness or nursing injuries, the rest of the girls are doing their best to take full advantage of their opportunities to get better by getting their reps in with the starting rotation. Although the girls went 0-3 this week, the girls fought hard, losing many of those games with close scores. We have 2 weeks to get everyone healthy before league play begins. Our Frosh and JV also had some very close games this week, both going 1-2. Thanks to all the fans who continue to come out and support the girls every night in our home games. Next games will be the Valencia tournament on Saturday and on the road at Westminster HS on Monday.

Justin Pearson and Owen Coloumbe each scored 5 goals. Meanwhile our wall in the goal Josiah Jessup had an outstanding 9 blocks. All that swimming then running in wet clothes paid off as we defeated this tough team 13-7!
